Anyone who’s watched All of Us Are Dead knows that Lim Jae Hyuk, a.k.a. the ever-reliable Yang Dae-su, is one of the standout supporting cast members in the show.
A physical force to be reckoned with, Dae-su—who’s also a smooth crooner, by the way—is the brawny bulldozer of Class 2-5. He’s best known for always being at the forefront of trouble, ready to protect his peers from a hoard of zombies.
Preparing for the show didn’t comes easy for Jae Hyuk, though. According to Korean media, the actor lost 30 kilograms after he joined his current agency, Studio Santa Claus Entertainment. To earn the role of Dae-su, he then had to gain it all back—32 kilograms to be exact—considering the built required for his character.
That said, it seems all the hard work was well worth it. Thanks to his memorable portrayal of Dae-su, Jae Hyuk has since started to garner considerable public recognition, as evidenced by his Instagram followers. From just under 1000 before the show premiered, his following count has now skyrocketed to over 470,000, and is still rising as the All of Us Are Dead cast rides out the success of the Netflix hit.
Despite his newfound fame, however, the 27-year-old isn’t resting on his laurels, primarily since acting has yet to become his full-time profession. In a YouTube video by Korean reporter Lee Jin Ho, he revealed that Jae Hyuk is still working multiple jobs to date by juggling between being a construction worker and a delivery rider for the Korean company Coupang. Yep, he’s still a part-timer despite the monstrous (pun intended) reaction to his Netflix series.
“In order for him to become an actor, he is working hard and doing whatever he can to make ends meet,” said Jin Ho.
With the amount of skill he demonstrated in All of Us Are Dead, we’re certain it won’t be long until Jae Hyuk lands more acting roles in the future, and he can finally make a full living out of the craft. After all, his ongoing journey is similar to the stories of K-drama leading man Ahn Bo Hyun, and his All of Us Are Dead co-star Lee Yoo Mi, who also worked in delivery service before shooting to global fame after Squid Game.
You can support Jae Hyuk’s rising career by watching him in All of Us Are Dead, exclusively on Netflix.
