My Name has been sitting comfortably in Netflix PH's Top 10 list for a while now, and for good reason. It's a far cry from the sentimental K-dramas we've gotten accustomed to, what with its intense fight scenes and enthralling plot twists in tow. One of the few shows under the genre to front a female protagonist (in the form of the effortlessly stunning Han So Hee), the eight-episode series is an action thriller that's totally worth the binge.
So Hee leads a double life in the show, first as estranged daddy's girl Yoon Ji-woo, and second as undercover assasin Oh Hye-jin. Opposite her is Jeon Pil-do, the heroine's partner in the Inchang Metropolitan Police Agency. This just-as-fearless debonair is played by 33-year-old actor Ahn Bo Hyun.
Being on TV and film screens for seven years now, Bo Hyun has played roles in notable dramas such as Descendants of the Sun and Itaewon Class. There's undeniably a brand of charm akin to the young actor, and it's totally worth getting to know him more. Read on and pick up some fun facts about the man behind Jeon Pil-do and more.
Here are 10 things you need to know about Ahn Bo Hyun from My Name

1. He's a Taurus.
A native of Busan, South Korea, Bo Hyun was born on May 16, 1988.
2. He's been boxing since he was in high school.
Bo Hyun boxed his way through middle school and high school. In a South Korean radio show, he shared that he even bagged a gold medal in amatuer boxing during those years. This athleticism would probably explain his toned physique, which was perfect for his role as the agile Jeon Pil-do.

3. He got his start in the industry as a model.
Let's admit it: It would be a waste if someone as dashing as Bo Hyun went by unnoticed. A graduate from the Department of Modelling of Daekyung University, he was launched into the scene as a commercial and print model. His good looks are on display in a number of notable magazine covers, such as those of 1st Look Korea, W Korea, and Vogue Hong Kong.

4. He used to work as a construction worker, among other odd jobs.
On a Korean variety talk show, the 33-year old shared that there was a time he had to make ends meet by taking on a number of side hustles, which included working at construction sites, food courts and gas stations. It was only in 2018 when Itaewon Class premiered that Bo Hyun could finally take it easy and focus on his acting career.
5. He's under the same agency as CNBLUE.
As an artist, Bo Hyun finds himself in good company under FNC Entertainment. He's signed alongside internationally-renowned K-pop acts such as boy band CNBLUE and girl group AOA. Other than them, FNC also houses other prominent entertainers such as actress and model Jung Yoo Jin and comedian Jung Hyung Don.
6. He's worked with Song Joong Ki before.
If we're talking about some of the most popular and critically acclaimed K-Dramas to date, Descendants of the Sun is definitely part of that conversation. Bo Hyun was featured in it as one of Captain Yoo Si-jin's (Song Joong Ki) Alpha Team members, First Sargeant Im Gwang-nam (better known as Piccolo).

Want to know a really great coincidence? After DoTS, rumors started to circulate that Joong Ki would co-star in a possible sequel to Train To Busan. Uncannily enough, Bo Hyun is originally from the province in the film's title. If ever the action thriller were to have a follow-up, we wouldn't mind seeing an on screen reunion between Bo Hyun and Joong Ki.
7. My Name was a dream project for him.
Never hesitant to break a sweat here and there, working in an action drama was a dream experience for Bo Hyun. In an interview, he mentioned that, "[he doesn't] know if it’s because [he] did sports before, but [he's] always had interest in doing action scenes." Did you know he actually gained 11 pounds of muscle to prepare for the series? "Pil-do isn’t a character with a threatening build, but I wanted to show that he was solid," he shares.

8. He's been awarded for his work as an actor.
After years of being in the game, Bo Hyun can now call himself a multi-awarded actor. Just last year, he was bringing home trophies from the MBC Entertainment Awards, Korea First Brand Awards, and the Asia Artist Awards. He was also nominated for Best New Actor at the APAN Star Awards for his performance in Itaewon Class as the villainous Jang Geun-won.

9. He also stars in Yumi's Cells.
Pre-My Name, we can witness Bo Hyun as Koo Woong in the bubbly drama Yumi's Cells, opposite Kim Go Eun. Playing the love interest of the series' namesake, it's a refreshing view of Bo Hyun after witnessing him in gory thrillers and revenge dramas.

10. He has his own YouTube channel.
If you can't get enough of the dreamy actor, you can see more sides of him on his YouTube channel. Over there, he posts personal travel vlogs, behind-the-scenes footage from his projects, and some reels of his usual workout routines. Just recently, he received his Silver Play Button from YouTube after gaining 100,000 subscribers. Go and help him grow that number by subscribing to his channel here!
