As Fashion Week season kicks into high gear over at London, we look back on the recently concluded New York Fashion Week for some hair and makeup pegs we can cop as early as now. Picking up from where last season left off, we’re still left with two dominant looks that come from polar ends of the beauty spectrum. On one end we see the return of gothic romance as dark lips and grunge eyes make a major comeback. On another, we still have au naturel beauty ruling over the hair department as tresses were styled to look its rawest. Here we round up five of those trends we loved from the Fall 2016 collections.
Goth lips galore
@marcjacobs
From Gigi Hadid at Rihanna’s Fenty X Puma runway to Lady Gaga at Marc Jacobs, girls were spotted sporting slick tar-stained lips that gave vampy reds and sultry plums a run for their money.
Punk’s not dead
@publicschoolnyc
Racoon eyes were all the rage at Marc Jacobs, where lids were lined and painted with heavy asphalt hues. Meanwhile at Public School, the look was softer and more worn-in with eyeliner smudged out to create a dishevelled, punk-like smokey eye.
Revenge of the ‘80s
@itsjeremyscott
Going against the dark movement that’s been prevalent all season, Jeremy Scott goes back to a time when neon was all the rage and the fashion was so bad that it was good. This meant hot fuchsia lips, marine blue eye shadow, and big, bold lashes, all crafted by MAC senior artist Kabuki.
Cool girl ponytails
@prabalgurung
Perfectly complementing the undone-ness of those pristine trousers with buttoned seams, the hair at Prabal Gurung had this nonchalant quality to it with the windswept texture of the twisted pony tail.
Million dollar boxer braids
@creaturesofthewind
While his hairstyle may not be new (shout out to Beyoncé, Kylie Jenner, and Khloe Kardashian), Creatures Of The Wind gives this urban hairstyle a romantic spin by paring down the look with a bare face and oxblood lips.
