The Hottest Makeup Trends to Sport This Season

The Hottest Makeup Trends to Sport This Season You either go big or go home.

We’re caught in a tug-of-war between the polar ends of our makeup palettes. From New York to Paris, spring has been about going heavy on the color with bright cherry lips, electric blue eyes, and doll-like lashes banging out the door. But at the same time, it also zones in on pure, bare skin in all its simplistic glory. So for those of you who want to get a head start on next season’s beauty trends, here’s a quick roundup of looks to we picked up from MAC's Spring/Summer 2016 trend report:

HOT CHERRY LIPS

Red lips prove to be a tough contender season after season. However, this spring, it’s all about paring down the classic staple, playing with different textures (whether matte or glossed) and accentuating it even more by keeping the rest of the face bare. So put down your liquid liners and lip pencils, simply swipe a tube of rouge onto your puckers, and then head straight out the door.

AQUATIC EYES

We know what you’re thinking, “How retro is blue shadow?” But before you completely take a step back to avoid looking like your grandma in the ‘80s, do know that when done right, it can actually look quite refreshing and very modern. The key is to add just subtle hints. If you’re not ready to paint a bright cobalt blob onto your lids, perhaps a teal liner might do the trick.

Lashes have become a key player this season. Backstage at Thomas Tait, models’ faces were kept bare, relying solely on the big ornamental lashes glued to the top and bottom lash lines to bring drama to their looks. But if falsies during the day (or any day, at that) aren’t your thing, you can still sport this trend simply by going heavy on the mascara. The best part: you don’t even have to think about clumps! The thicker and spider-y the lashes are, the better.

ALL ABOUT FACE

Skin is definitely still in this season with the look going more raw and natural. The secret to this look is hydration. Keep your skin looking soft and supple with the use of moisturizer and a touch of luminizer to give depth. Forget heavy contouring. Heck, forget foundation! Only apply to areas with a bit of redness and keep the rest of the face clean and bare.
