The DIY Designer by Orly Shani is currently one of my favorite YouTube channels, especially now that we're in quarantine. As a fashion person with a chronically stuffed closet, there's bound to be one or two things that I'm never wearing again (or, I'm ashamed to admit, don't fit me anymore)...and there's no better time to get crafty with the scissors in an attempt to bring 'em new purpose. Feel the same way? Here, three fun, unique DIY style projects you can gamely take on at home.
1. Paint your white sneakers in custom candy colors.
Have some old kicks you've officially grown bored of? Peg Balenciaga's infamous Triple-S sneakers and paint yours in contrasting custom hues! Literally all you'll need is paint, a paintbrush, and some serious wrist control.
2. Turn straight-cut denims into wide-leg jeans.
This is perfect for repurposing that tall pile of old denims you're ready to toss. Basically, you'll be needing two pairs: a simple straight-cut jean and your "donor" jeans, the latter of which you're going to cut up and use to widen the inseam of your first pair. Genius, and a notch above your usual raw-hemmed look.
3. Stitch up a cool cutout sweater.
I know I typed "cutout sweater," but actually, Orly's video is a veritable treasure trove of fun ways to deconstruct—requiring nothing but a needle and thread!—whatever chunky old knits you have lying around unloved. Choose from an asymmetrical cropped turtleneck or a peekaboo V-neck.
