Jonathan Anderson’s Dior has been warmly welcomed by the world of fashion. At once novel and nostalgic, the Irish designer’s work for the maison has spoken to varying generations of patrons.
At his debut womenswear show during the S/S 2026 season, he exhibited his referential approach to design, reinterpreting many of the legacy house’s most beloved codes. Among the most striking tributes on the catwalk was a dainty purse named the Cigale, an homage to Dior’s history of elegance.
Meet the Dior Cigale
Several emblematic designs come to mind when one thinks of Monsieur Christian Dior's craftsmanship. The "New Look" dress, undeniably, remains one of the most instantly recognizable, with its waist-cinching silhouette and dramatic flair. One of its earliest reimaginings was La Cigale, an evening gown introduced by the maison in 1952.
Named after the cicada, an insect with defined lines on its wings, the frock was characterized by bold pleating, a fitted bodice, and a billowing skirt.

For his entry into the maison's legacy, Jonathan sought to re-envision the Cigale into a bag that exuded just as much elegance. The result was a delicate leather tote that stood out for its trapezoidal shape, singular handle, and panelling that culminated in a petite bow. The branding is cleverly integrated into the design, as the "O" of Dior serves as a loop for the handle.
At the label's Spring/Summer 2026 womenswear show, the Cigale made rounds in both candy-colored and neutral hues. Models either clutched it in their hands or used its detachable strap to wear it on their shoulders.
How Much the Dior Cigale Bag Costs
The Cigale has since hit shelves and is currently available in small and medium iterations. The comparatively compact version measures to 11 inches in length, 7 inches in height, and 3 inches in width, and costs over P300,000.
Meanwhile, the medium size, which will set you back P340,000, clocks in at 3.5 inches in length, 9 inches in height, and 4.5 inches in width. Either size promises to carry a phone and a few vanity essentials, making the piece a worthy evening companion.

Style Stars Wearing the Dior Cigale Bag
The Cigale has become quite popular among the sartorially-inclined, particularly with Dior's slate of celebrity ambassadors. Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence and pop star Ariana Grande, for example, both go for the medium-sized version in a no-frills black. Jisoo of BLACKPINK has also added the model to her rotation, opting for a cutesy verdant iteration.
And speaking of the maison's friends, Thai power duo Lingling Kwong and Orm Kornnaphat are also big fans of the Cigale. While Orm keeps things simple with a white tee, jeans, and her spotless black tote, Lingling opts for a little shimmer with her look, accented by her cream-hued Cigale.
