Jonathan Anderson’s Dior Takeover and What It Means for the House
For the first time since Christian Dior himself, one name will lead the maison.

On May 29, the house of Dior officially confirmed the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri as artistic director of its womenswear collections. The announcement came shortly after the brand’s Cruise 2026 show in Rome, which marked her final contribution to the maison.
Today, just four days later, Dior appointed Jonathan Anderson to take full creative leadership over the brand, overseeing not only womenswear but also menswear and haute couture, making him the first to hold such a role since Christian Dior himself.

The Significance of Jonathan Anderson's Appointment as Overall Creative Director for Dior
In an official statement, the house announced the Irish designer’s appointment. Delphine Arnault, Chairman and CEO of Christian Dior Couture, expressed her enthusiasm on the change of leadership: “I have followed his career with great interest since he joined the LVMH group over ten years ago,” she shared. “I am convinced that he will bring a creative and modern vision to our House, inspired by the fabulous story of Monsieur Dior and the codes he created.”
Jonathan Anderson first rose to prominence through his acclaimed tenure at Loewe, where he served as creative director for 11 years until stepping down on March 17. Just one month later, on April 17, he was named as Dior’s artistic director of menswear, effectively succeeding English designer Kim Jones.
His newly expanded role marks a historic shift for the French fashion house. For the first time since Christian Dior himself, a single designer will oversee all of its core collections: men’s, women’s, and haute couture.
The world's fashion folk can thus expect an ambitious body of work from Jonathan, with at least 10 collections a year for Dior alone: two haute couture, four menswear, and four womenswear. That’s in addition to the six annual collections he continues to design for his eponymous label, JW Anderson, and his biannual collaborations with Uniqlo. As noted by The Business of Fashion, this will effectively position him as “the industry’s most prolific, multi-tasking designer since Karl Lagerfeld.”

Celebrated for his playful and cerebral take on fashion, Jonathan’s past work at Loewe and JW Anderson showcased his knack for reinventing luxury fashion. At Loewe, his fashion-forward designs bolstered the brand into its global resurgence, successfully landing on LYST’s Hottest Brand Index each year. His most notable designs include the crowd-favorite Loewe Puzzle bag, the Balloon heels, the Petal-brush heels, and the internet-viral Tomato Clutch.

With Dior, one can anticipate that same imaginative spirit to guide its collections: irreverent yet thoughtful, boundary-pushing yet steeped in tradition. His approach is poised to breathe new life into the house’s heritage codes, offering fresh perspectives while staying true to the maison’s storied DNA.
“Jonathan Anderson is one of the greatest creative talents of his generation. His incomparable artistic signature will be a crucial asset in writing the next chapter of the history of the House of Dior,” Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of LVMH, said in a statement.
Jonathan will debut his first collection for Dior later this month, on June 27, during the Men’s Summer 2026 presentation at Paris Fashion Week.
