Prepare the fanfare: The OG K-drama leading man Gong Yoo is set to make us swoon once more. The Hallyu king is reportedly returning to the romantic screen for Netflix, alongside Another Miss Oh actress Seo Hyun Jin.
Titled Trunk, the upcoming drama marks Gong Yoo’s grand return to the TV romance genre since 2016’s hit Goblin. Before it hits our streaming screens in the near future, here’s what you need to know about the next title on his slate.
The Plot
The K-drama is set to be an adaptation of the novel Trunk by Kim Ryeo Ryeong. The source material narrated the story of a fictional marriage service agency, who plays matchmaker to its clients with their future spouses.
In an ironic twist, heading its agency is Noh In-ji, a woman who chooses to stay single despite the nature of her job. She crosses paths with Han Jeong-won, a music producer who believes that all marriages are deceit in disguise.
The Cast
Management SOOP confirmed that Hyun Jin and Gong Yoo are “positively considering” the series, where they will be set to portray the roles of Noh In-ji and Hang Jeong-won, respectively.
Formerly the main vocalist of the K-pop group M.I.L.K. before its disbandment in 2003, Hyun Jin has since then become a formidable actress in the Hallyu scene. She gained popularity as a lead in 2016’s Another Miss Oh, and has been a top-billed cast member in dramas such as Dr. Romantic (2016), Temperature of Love (2017), The Beauty Inside (2018), You Are My Spring (2021), and most recently, Why Her (2022).

Meanwhile, Gong Yoo is one of the Korean film and TV industry’s most recognizable names, thanks to his presence in series like Goblin (2016) and Coffee Prince (2007), and films such as Train to Busan (2016) and Kim Ji-Young: Born 1982 (2019). Before Trunk, the actor has also made appearances in notable Netflix originals like Squid Game (2021) and The Silent Sea (2021).

The Crew
The upcoming drama is set to be helmed by producer and director Kim Kyu Tae, whose past works include Our Blues (2022), Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016), and That Winter, The Wind Blows (2013). Penning the series is Park Eun-Young, known for dramas like Hwarang (2016) and The 3rd Charm (2018).
