Did You Know? "Genie, Make a Wish" Was Song Hye Kyo's First Cameo in Her Career

Among the standout moments in Bae Suzy and Kim Woo Bin’s Genie, Make a Wish was a cameo by Song Hye Kyo. Her brief stint on two episodes of the whimsical series caused a frenzy within the K-drama world, because apart from her stunning visuals, the special appearance marked a first in Hye Kyo’s almost three-decade career.

Hye Kyo played Jinniya on the show, a female genie who also used to date Kim Woo Bin’s controversial character, Iblis. As per Korean news outlets, Hye Kyo’s involvement in the drama was all thanks to her relationship with writer Kim Eun Sook. The pair previously worked closely together on two of Hye Kyo’s hit K-dramas, Descendants of the Sun and The Glory.

In an interview, Eun Sook revealed that she personally asked the actress, along with Daniel Henney, and Kim Ji Hoon, to be a guest on her latest project. She shared, “It was difficult for me to ask them to do a few short scenes. Despite the long journey and the effort of having to read the entire script to understand the context, I'm so grateful that they readily agreed to appear. Song Hye-kyo, who was truly goddess-like...”

Reports say that Hye Kyo immediately said yes to the favor out of loyalty to Eun Sook, and that she did the drama without a talent fee.

Her cameo isn’t the only thing that had fans reeling, either. While shooting in Dubai, it seems Hye Kyo also developed quite the bond with Suzy. A few months after they shot their scenes together, Hye Kyo revealed that she’d grown close to the Genie, Make a Wish lead.

“After the Blue Dragon Series Awards' hand-printing event, we went to my house and spent time together,” she told Elle Korea. The two recently made their friendship more public on Instagram when Suzy posted a photo with Hye Kyo while holding up the birthday cake she gave her. FYI, Suzy celebrated her 31st birthday last October 10.
