Choi Woo Sung once gained 28 kg for a series role.

In 2024, Woo Sung was cast in retro crime series Chief Detective 1958. As Jongnam Police Station officer Jo Gyeong-hwan, the actor had to put on some weight to believably fulfill the role. More specifically, he had to gain about 28 kilograms in total!

In order to achieve Gyeong-hwan's ideal physique, he commited to bulking up and looking more like his character. "I thought I had done well to gain weight while doing martial arts. My body was like this, so it was worth it. If I hadn't increased my weight, it would have been difficult," he shared. During a physically intense scene, he was able to easily lift an adult man, which he attributes to his larger size. "I realized that they didn't ask me to lift him for no reason," recalls Woo Sung.
