Homegrown films are having their much-deserved moment in the streaming scene. For proof, look no further than Netflix’s recent Top 10 Movies and its top pick: Doll House.

Helmed by Finding Agnes director Marla Ancheta, the Netflix original film has shaken up viewing audiences with its familial story bound to stir even bottled-up emotions. One particular subject of netizens’ praise? The lead himself, Baron Geisler!

The Tabing Ilog alumnus returns to the cinematic screen as Rustin, a troubled father on the road to redemption by reconnecting with his once-neglected daughter. As viewers commend his performance, it’s worth noting that this casting is actually all thanks to the producers’ suggestion. According to a recent interview, the producers had personally suggested Baron for the role.

Nung sinabi sa akin ng producer na si Baron ang gaganap na father, wala naman akong ano. Hindi ako nagdalawang-isip kumbaga,” Director Marla said. “Sobrang bagay sa kanya 'yung role.”

Marla also touched on the possibility that the role may hit too close to Baron, given how the actor once opened up in an interview last year about how drugs and alcohol “almost ruined his life.” Ultimately though, the director considered that this may bode well for his performance. “Pero sige! Mas maganda 'yun. Mas may hugot!”

For Baron, he acknowledges that there were certainly similarities between him and the fictional character. “Naka-relate naman ako kay Rustin. Close to life,” he said. “But there are a lot of twists na dapat abangan sa film na ito.”

The actor eventually gave the awaited “yes” to Netflix, given that this was “a big project.”

“It’s a good role,” he shared. “A lot of people, [like] my co-actors, tell me, ‘Baron, this is your second wind. Please keep it up. We’re very proud of you.’”

What netizens are saying about "Doll House"

Audiences flocked to the Twitter space to highlight the film’s tearjerker-laced moments. For Baron in particular, netizens have branded Doll House as his “renaissance” and “redemption” onto the acting scene.
