Expectedly, this caused a major debate on how necessary the product really was, and in the story, Dr. Belo explained why she thinks it isn't: "I find moisturizers to be a band-aid solution that don’t really address the problem." What she recommends we do instead of moisturizing? Exfoliation. "You need to exfoliate in order to reveal the softer and smoother baby skin underneath your old dehydrated skin," she said.

Tied in second place were beauty drama that involves Filipina beauty vlogger Michelle Dy. The first one occurred in late July, when American YouTuber Jeffree Star called out Filipina beauty vlogger Michelle Dy. On his Instagram stories, Jeffree mentioned that a YouTuber attempted to "steal" the concept of his Jeffree Star-Approved series.
While he didn't name the Filipina specifically, fans were quick to point out the newly-uploaded video on Michelle's channel called MD Approved. She eventually addressed the issue, saying she did state being inspired by international YouTubers in the video's description box. She also apologized to Jeffree and promptly deleted the video from her channel.
Her next controversy happened less than a month later, due to an Instagram story she posted addressing negative comments on her photos. Michelle was called out for allegedly acne shaming her haters by telling them to worry about their blackheads and pimples instead of worrying about her photos.
