Let Sassa Jimenez show you the ropes to non-boring, wearable makeup.

Defining what "minimal makeup" actually means is tricky, because there are just too many ways to do it that the lines start to blur. Skipping all steps aside from lipstick is obviously considered minimal makeup, but so is wearing a bit of foundation, blush, and sketching some blue eyeliner on your lids.

That said, if you tend to lean more towards the latter spectrum, then you might find some inspo on Sassa Jimenez's feed. The fashion designer bridges the gap between barely-there glam and fun, colorful looks you'd want to have on rotation—she's a girl who can do both, so to speak. But in case you haven't been to her Instagram (and you should), Sassa pairs fresh, dewy skin with practically everything—a plain winged liner, a green smokey eye, and a chrome-shaded inner corner. She plays around with a simple, monochrome face, too, but she always finds a way to make it a little more interesting. To find out how she does just that, we asked the designer how she creates her signature look, including the unsung hero producs she uses to achieve 'em all.

Sassa's Signature Look

"During the day, I always want to look like I'm put together without being overly made-up, but my eye makeup or lip definitely changes depending on what I’m wearing. I always stick to a simple and fresh base so I can still let my skin breathe while still being experimental with my look. I love doing a pop of color or small wing tips on my eyes to brighten up the face.

"I usually get asked about how I do my eye makeup or how I put on my eyeliner and the answer is always this: Practice! I've done so many ugly makeup looks on myself in the past and the only way to really gain confidence in makeup application is to practice, see what works for you and build on that."

The Routine

"I think the most important part of looking good every day is to treat your skin well so I like starting out with a light moisturizer or beauty oil so my skin is prepped for light coverage (or none at all, depends on the day). After I prep my skin, I apply a primer and then a light to medium coverage foundation on the T-zone and I blend it outwards with a beauty blender. I use less base now that I'm older just because I think skincare is more of a priority than covering up any imperfections on the skin. I like to keep things light and even so I use the same base to even out any discoloration under my eyes."

"I like to keep my brows simple so I just use a light to medium brown eyebrow pencil and fill in some sparse areas and then I finish it off with either clear or brown brow gel."

"I love doing a fun color on my eyes so I really try to be adventurous on a daily basis. Sometimes I'll do a wing tip in a basic black liquid liner but on most days I like using blue, purple or green. I totally love using different colored eye shadows as well, but I try not to use too much. Just enough so you see a bit of color on my eyelids. I finish of with some mascara so I look bright-eyed and awake."

"I dab a bit of cream blush sometimes or none at all, and most days I like using a cream or powder highlighter on the apples of my cheeks."

"On days that I have eye makeup I just use a clear or slightly tinted lip gloss on my lips. On days that I don't do any eye makeup I like using lipstick in shades of pink or red."

The Shorter, In-a-Rush Version

"Part of my enjoyment with my make up looks is the me-time I get when I'm doing it so if I have the time, I'll take as much time as I can. It's a nice meditative state for me, it’s also the time where I can tune out and catch up on new music. In a rush, I would probably just do base, brows, and a lip then I am good to go."
