Try looking up any beauty term with the phrase "round face" and you're guaranteed to see a photo of Selena Gomez. The 28-year-old singer is just an icon like that, and besides, it's not her fault she's such a reliable source for inspo.
From round face-friendly hairstyles to photo-ready makeup, we'd be lying if we say that we've never taken notes from her. But today, we're taking notes from one of Selena's secret weapons: Her makeup artist, Hung Vanngo. On his YouTube channel, Hung shared how he does glam on the Rare Beauty founder's iconic round mug. Below, you'll learn how he applies her blush, sculpts her face, and more essential tricks!
5 Essential Makeup Tips for Round Faces
1. Find your perfect foundation shade match.
Hung recommends having at least two foundation shades in your collection so you have a color that matches you all year round. You can also mix these colors to create an in between hue, which will save you from buying an entirely new bottle. Next to looking flattering, wearing the right shade of foundation makes for a great neutral base for all the color you'll be adding later on.
2. Use concealer to highlight the center of your face.
In the tutorial, Hung uses a concealer that's around two shades lighter than Selena's skin tone. He applied it under her eyes in a triangle shape, around her nose, the sides of the mouth, and a bit on the chin. It immediately gave more dimension to her face even without contour!

3. Shade the face instead of doing a harsh contour.
Hung shares that he likes doing slight shading on Selena's face to define her bone structure. "I don't want to call it contouring because it sounds really heavy and some people don't need it," he explains. "But because she'll be on camera a lot, the light blows out everything and I like to bring back the shading with bronzing cream." For Selena's face shape, it's best to apply shading under the cheekbones, the jawline, and the hairline.

4. Accentuate your shading work with a bronzer.
If you want to intensify your sculpt without adding more cream, touch up those areas using a powder bronzer instead. This will provide a subtle veil of warmth on the skin and set your cream contour, too!

5. Take note of where you apply blush.
Blush placement is crucial for every face shape. It could make or break your look, and Hung's blush technique is perfect for round-faced folk. "I generally like the blush a little higher on the cheekbone. I think it gives the face a little lift," says the makeup artist. To really get that lifted effect, he sweeps the blush upwards diagonally towards the temples.
"If you want a sweet innocent look, you can [apply] around the cheek area," Hung adds, pointing his brush to the area slightly below the apples of the cheeks. According to Selena, these two tips were game-changing for her!

Finishing up the look, Hung applied a rose cream eyeshadow on his muse's lids and a sheer pink gloss on her pout. See the completed glam below!
