To be fair, foundation is not the worst thing you can put on your skin. Wearing it often can even be good for you, but like all makeup, it's not a necessity. In fact, if you're reading this article, it's probably because: 1) you like foundation but want to feel comfortable even without it; or 2) you want to train yourself to stop wearing it altogether. Regardless, we've gathered a few tips that could help you wane off your base-wearing habit slowly but surely:
1. Switch to a lighter base.
Many kinds of makeup and skincare offer the same skin tone-evening benefits of foundation, so quitting it doesn't necessarily mean leaving redness uncovered. 2. Learn how to spot conceal.
Put your foundation-wearing self through a little experiment; instead of wearing a full-face, try to only cover your problem areas with your favorite concealer. Hit the usual areas like under your eyes, the sides of your nose, plus any dark spots, and when you're done, check your reflection. The end result? A foundation-free version of your usual base! In technical terms, this is called spot-concealing, which will overall help you in applying less product on your face.

3. Gradually use less foundation.
Gradually removing foundation from your daily routine can make its absence less painful in the long run. For example, if you usually apply two pumps of product on your face, try reducing that to one pump for a week or two and see how you like it. From here, you can slowly work your way down to half a pump, until even that amount feels like too much.
Or, instead of applying foundation wih a brush, switch over to a sponge to instantly give you a sheerer finish without trying!
4. Go cold turkey.
If you really want to give your skin a break, take the plunge and try going a day or two without base makeup. Going cold turkey usually works well for some people since it shows you for real that flaunting your bare skin might not be that bad after all.
5. Address your main skin concerns.
Wearing zero foundation would be a less daunting task when you have nothing to cover. That's why when aiming to go without it, target your main concerns by boosting your skincare routine. For dark spots and scars, try brightening serums or consult your dermatologist if you can get them lasered. If you deal with redness and acne, opt for gentler skincare products or ask your doctor if you have a hormonal imbalance that needs to be treated. Either way, being more mindful of your regimen could give you a complexion you wouldn't want to cover!
