Good news, animal lovers! By the end of 2018, your K-beauty addiction will be 100% cruelty-free. Thanks to a bill passed in Korea in 2016, the country is officially banning animal testing for both cosmetics and its ingredients.
According to Cruelty Free International, this signed bill adds to the animal testing bans in the European Union, India, and New Zealand. Countries like the United States, China, and Brazil are apparently working towards going cruelty-free as well.
That said, being free of animal testing doesn't mean that Korea will stop the use of animal products in their cosmetics. Popular K-beauty ingredients like snail mucin, bee propolis extract, and honey are still allowed. The bill passed only requires that no animals will be harmed during the production of any product.
