This October, Michael Cinco will have something new in common with legendary designers Oscar de la Renta, Vivienne Westwood, and Chinese designer Guo Pei: That is, being the subject of the latest exhibition of the SCAD Museum of Fashion + Film.
Celebrated Filipino designer Michael Cinco is having his first solo exhibit, Impalpable Couture, at the Savannah College of Art and Design Museum in Savannah, Georgia. It will feature at least 15-20 pieces of Michael's works and will run from October 23, 2019 to January 5, 2020. The exhibit will include his creations for Hollywood big names Jennifer Lopez, Aishwarya Rai, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and Mariah Carey.
This latest achievement comes on the heels of the success of Michael's latest Swan Lake-inspired collection in collaboration with Ballet Philippines in celebration of their 50th anniversary, and after he was also one of the 10 world-class Filipino designers honored at the Red Charity Gala.
So, how did this all come to be?
In an exclusive with Preview, Michael shares how everything fell into place for this exhibit. “I got a message from my friend Jeffrey Felner, a very respectable fashion critic for The New York Times, and he told me that he recommended me to the SCAD Museum of Art Director of Fashion Exhibition Rafael Gomes to have a solo exhibition in the US. I got an email from Rafael and he told me he wants to exhibit my couture gowns worn by famous celebrities in the red carpet, music videos, films and concerts.”
