Filipinos have taken to different means in order to cope with the prolonged quarantine period. Where most have turned to the food business as a replacement for their day jobs, singer-songwriter Kris Lawrence sells face masks and chest bags instead. The major twist? They’re not just your ordinary masks and bags. Kris’ items are actually made out of designer pieces such as Louis Vuitton and Gucci!

So how exactly does he do it? Kris explained the process in an interview for morning talk show Magandang Buhay last November 3. “What I do is bumibili ako ng mga luxury bags tapos sinisira ko. Tapos gumagawa ako ng mga face masks and bags, mga chest bags,” said the singer, further explaining that staying safe can still mean looking stylish at the same time.

It’s not just his family who benefits from his new business, though. Kris revealed on the same show that he has a team of sewers helping him rework the luxury items into face masks and chest rigs. According to the interview, he ended up hiring the workers from his friend’s company who had previously lost their jobs due to the pandemic. “Nabigyan namin ng trabaho iyong mga sewers na nawalan ng trabaho so they can sew our new PPEs so everybody’s safe,” he said.
