Over the decades, Gucci has prided itself as one of the most identifiable fashion houses in the world. A cultural touchstone in and of itself, the maison has gained immense recall factor through its distinct design choices. From handles crafted out of bamboo to a monogram motif that literally anyone can recognize, there are several indicators that a piece was crafted by the Italian label.

Perhaps a design code that falls on the subtler side is the horsebit, a hardware detail that speaks to Gucci's history and innovative nature. It made several appearances during the brand's Fall/Winter 2025 show (held on a platform shaped like interlocking Gs, no less!), particularly on a compact shoulder bag named the Sienna.

Meet the Gucci Sienna

Gucci was in a state of limbo during the tail-end of last year. Sabato de Sarno had just bid goodbye to his post as creative director after a short tenure, and at the time, no one had an idea who would be taking over. It was up to the brand's in-house design team to whip up a 60-piece collection that merged Gucci's touchpoints with a future-thinking approach. The result? Multi-textural ensembles, liberal color-blocking, and the showmanship of the label's long-standing mastery of leatherwork.

Among the bags that made a debut at the show was the Sienna, a rectangular shoulder bag that featured an oversized horsebit clasp as the buckle. Shaped out of gold hardware, the detail was a subtle way to elevate something as simple as a shoulder bag. With its adjustable strap, models clutched it in their hands or wrapped it around their wrists.

The bag was familiar in shape and structure, but the horsebit displayed up front gave it an air of sophistication that only a Gucci original can have. As compared to the Horsebit 1955 bag, the Sienna has less fuss with its overall design, but flaunts the hardware in a bolder manner.

In case you didn't know, the horsebit came to be in the 1950s when former head honcho Aldo Gucci decided to stylize their leather loafers with the metal hardware. On a trip to New York, he noticed how most equestrians, some of Gucci's target clientele at the time, would wear unadorned shoes on their horsing activities. He sought to brand their shoes in such a way that would definitely catch their attention. Seven or so decades later, and the horsebit continues to attract purveyors to Gucci's offerings, one of which is the Sienna.

How Much the Gucci Sienna Costs

The Sienna may seem to be a straightforward type of purse, and in essence, it is. Rendered in smooth, fine leather on the inside and out, the piece is made to be a trusty companion for a myriad of agendas. Measuring 22.5 cm in width, 14 cm in height, and 8 cm in depth, it can comfortably house a phone, earpods, a wallet, a bullet of lipstick, and then some. Four main colorways—namely, black, ivory, Rosso Ancora red, and green—are commercially available for about P260,000.
