It’s almost been a week since Gazini Ganados, Philippines’ Miss Universe 2019 candidate, landed in the U.S. to prepare for the highly anticipated pageant. While she’s been immersing herself in rehearsals and rubbing elbows with fellow contestants, onlookers and anxious fans have been treated to glimpses of what her style will be like on the big day: bold and most probably phoenix-inspired, which is her signature reference.
Apart from the clues she recently dropped about her evening gowns, we now have one more confirmed detail on our hands: Gazini will be flaunting a pair of Philippine flag-inspired earrings!
Accessories and bag designer Kathryn Fanlo recently posted a photo of her customized handiwork, aptly called Watawat. The extravagant, Davao-made earrings consist of strands of red and blue beads attached to golden hoops that represent the sun, and three little stars proudly top it all off.
“Made these customized [Philippine] flag-inspired earrings specially for [queen] @gazinii. Thank you for helping promote local talent and showing the rest of the world our rich culture,” part of the caption read.
In another post that featured Gazini herself wearing the earrings, Kathryn explained that the earrings represent “peace, unity, and Filipino pride.”
The designer also created some of the pieces that Gazini has worn throughout her pageant preparations so far. Below, she wears a necklace with “an image of a girl from the Ata tribe of Mindanao.”
At the Miss Universe Thanksgiving dinner, Gazini proudly showed off a printed clutch bag made by Kathryn as well.
Last year, reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray sported her own Philippine flag-inspired earrings with her 'Three Stars and a Sun’ ear cuffs by Tessera Jewelry, which she had designed herself.
Miss Universe 2019 will take place on December 8, 2019 at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Steve Harvey will be hosting the event for the fifth year in a row.
