In an interview for The Bottomline with Boy Abunda that was released online earlier today, Gazini Ganados finally revealed details about her Miss Universe wardrobe. The 23-year-old contestant confirmed that Cebu-based designer Cary Santiago created her gowns: “He is also in charge of the national costume and the preliminaries, so basically all the pressure’s on him kasi siya yung in charge of all the major wardrobe looks,” she said.
On the color of the gown, Gazini also shared that it will be “earth-toned.” It took a while to decide on the color though, as the initial one didn’t make her “bloom.” The beauty queen explained, “I didn’t feel like I was gonna glow in the color of that dress… maganda yung details pero hindi pa siya natatapos so we did a test look on it and then we figured out it won’t work on me.”
As for the gown’s silhouette, Gazini confirmed that it will be bodyfitting. “It’s like my gown during Bb. Pilipinas—super curvy tapos may touch of Filipino culture.” She also mentioned that the gown will feature wings but did not specify its size. Whatever the design is, it’s clear that Gazini feels confident and is ready to spread her wings during the competition: “Lilipad ako,” she declared.
She also revealed that she will be doing her own hair and makeup, with the assistance of artists from CHI, the official sponsor of Miss Universe 2019.
Lastly, Gazini also shared the backstory behind her signature "phoenix walk," which onlookers are expecting her to flaunt during the big day. "Everytime I’m on stage, I feel like flying. I feel like giving it my all or I feel like [I'm] soaring."
