"For my candles, I use 100% soy wax because this is much cleaner than paraffin wax."
Local Instagram shop Good Design Co curates various home decor that take after the shape and silhouttes of the human body! Frances Acance, founded her online shop while in quarantine. "Since our setting is mostly in the house, I wanted to redecorate and make some improvements in my home," she tells Preview. "Then I came across and fell in love with so many choices but I couldn’t purchase them in Manila. This gave me the idea to solve my own problem especially because I believed I wasn’t the only one who was having this problem," she adds.

And like most millennials, the 25-year-old took kept an online journal of her wishlist. She started an Instagram account that curated all the things she longed to buy but were not readily available locally. "Then a few days people started messaging me with their shopping needs. It serves as a passion project first and foremost for me, but in a span of a month I realized it could be a viable business too since my prices can match retail prices abroad."

With an eye for interior and fashion design, Frances found no difficulty in feeling the pulse of today's trends. She lists Dieter Rams’ Principles of Good Design as her "guiding principle for the essence of [the] brand." Frances says, "Dieter Rams emphasized that "good design is aesthetic." It meant appearance should also be well-thought-out even though "form just follows function.""
'70s Ceramic Mugs (Set of four large latte mugs), P3900
She also values craftsmanship, thus her shop stocks a lot of handmade goods. "I value skill and the great amount of time artisans make one piece, whether it be a ceramic mug or a pillow cover. Almost everything in my store is handmade so a lot of time is spent on each piece. This is also the reason I don’t try to haggle the prices," she says.
Light Nude Top Pot, P3980
"I have a love affair with ceramics because they are sustainable and are really long-lasting (as long as you take care of them!)."
But apart from one-of-a-kind pieces, Good Design Co prides itself in offering home decor and wares that glorify the human body. Booty mugs, Boob pillow, Body vases and candles are proudly emblazoned on the shop's Instagram phrase. Frances says that her fascination towards sapien style decor is not just a "strong statement," but also feels "liberating" on her end. She deems these goods as "an extension of my own voice and body."
Cream and Brown Boob Pillow (Cover and pillow), P3700 each
"In terms of textile, I prioritize things that are made in 100% cotton, wool, or linen because these are more sustainable choices too."
"We should all promote body love! Everyone needs to be comfortable in their own skin," Frances exclaims. And with her pieces looking like each one of us—in the best and most aesthetic ways possible—isn't it such an empowering experience to boldly flaunt them in our homes?
