Amanda and TJ’s unbreakable friendship might sound like another best friends turned lovers trope, but this film covers deeper aspects in human connection more than what we’re already familiar with.

1. It’s Alessandra’s directorial debut film.
The Filipina actress rose to fame as Lea in 2017 blockbuster film Kita Kita, which was produced by Piolo. According to Alessandra, she directed the film as a gift to Piolo for giving her one of the life-changing opportunities she ever had so she could grow more as an artist. That said, other than being her co-star, Piolo stepped up again as her co-producer for the film.
2. It’s about true companionship.
Written by Alessandra herself, the script was inspired by her gratitude for Piolo’s friendship. She further explained, “There is no single or universal definition that could explain how much gratefulness a person experiences when another being gives you a chance to believe in yourself. As the famous saying goes, I love you, Piooolooo!”
During the same interview, Piolo also described the film as “the feeling of being on the same journey with someone, in finding out what profound companionship can offer to the other and savor the love so sublimely expressed in this film.”

3. The film is created by a promising crew.
Apart from Piolo, renowned director Joyce Bernal was the creative producer of the film. Her long list of remarkable yet heart-wrenching films include Miss Granny (2018), Last Night (2017), and Everything About Her (2016). Known for his visually stunning work Kita Kita, Boy Yniguez could easily tranport the viewer into the special road trip in My Amanda with his delicate and soft cinematography. The fact that these two amazing filmmakers, among many in the team, are on board has left us at the edge of our seats to see where this film will take us. Now finally, the wait is over! My Amanda is set to exclusively premiere on Netflix this July 15, 2021.
