In case you didn't know, for the past few years, there's been an ongoing challenge in the West to create the most expensive Starbucks drink in the world. A bit odd, we know, but it seems there have been quite the number of baristas who were willing to adhere to their customer's over-the-top requests. You see, the most expensive cup of Starbucks can't simply be found on the menu. Instead, it's all about how you choose to customize it.
Way back in 2014, a Twitter user by the name of Andrew Chifari claimed the most expensive Starbucks drink title. His order? A so-called Sexagintuple Vanilla Bean Mocha Frappuccino poured into a 128oz glass with 60 shots of espresso. According to Andrew's official receipt, his monstrosity of a drink cost $54.75 (approximately P2653).
Is your mind blown yet? Well reel it in for a second because it's been six years and Mr. Chifari has since been dethroned. So, who's the reigning caffeine royal today?
As per an article by Money Inc., the title is currently held by one William E. Lewis Jr. He attempted the challenge in 2017, walking into a Starbucks in Bethesda, Maryland with just his large mug and an outrageous dream.
Luckily, the barista behind the counter obliged to his request and made for William a Super Venti Flat White complete with coconut milk, 11,000 mg of caffeine, and a whopping 170 shots of espresso! The entire drink came to a total of $148.99! That's approximately a ludicrous P7217.45, and definitely way more than we'd be willing to pay for a cup of coffee. But hey, to each their own, we guess.
Now, if you're worried about this daredevil's poor heart, don't fret because he reportedly shared the mammoth drink with his friends. But most importantly, it seems no one's bested his record since.
