Simply put, Viñas Deluxe's job is to be looked at. One of the most recognizable names in today's local drag scene, thousands of eyes gaze at her on the daily, whether she's lipsyncing on stage (or on screen), or advertising her wigs on TikTok.
Such a profession must come with the pressure of being perceived, or of appearing a certain way. This, however, doesn't faze Viñas at all—so much so, that it didn't stop her from going through with a cosmetic procedure she always wanted: a nose job. During her Creative 25 interview, the DeLuxe Wigs CEO opened up to Preview about it, and why she, simply, does not care what other people might think.
Why drag queen Viñas Deluxe decided to get a nose job
"Bago pa ako maging drag queen, gusto ko nang magpa-nose job kasi gandang-ganda ako kay Marian Rivera dati noong nag-Darna siya," she earnestly recalls. Viñas brought this juvenile desire with her to the bars where she began her drag career.
"Yung mga ina-idolize ko na queens and yung iba kong mga kasamang queens sa Nectar [Nightclub] dati, lagi kong kinukwentuhan na ‘Uy, gusto kong magpailong.’ Tapos lahat sila, dating-dati pa, nakapagpa-ilong na. Naunahan pa nila ako."
When clubs had to shut down due to the pandemic, Viñas had all the time in the world and nothing but the thought of finally getting her dream operation done. "Nandito lang ako sa bahay. Hindi ko naman kailangan lumabas-labas, so sabi ko ‘Push ko na ‘to talaga'," she recounts.
Before going under the knife though, the drag queen still had one apprehension: her fear of blood. She explains, saying that, "Hindi ako nanonood ng horror movies, ‘di ako nanonood ng mga gory kasi ‘di ko kaya. Kunwari may kaibigan akong nasugatan, hindi ko siya titingnan, aalis talaga ako. Gano’n yung level."
To get over it, she kept telling herself, "'Di ba gusto mo ‘to?" before and during the procedure. The thought of finally attaining the nose of her dreams calmed her down, and seeing the final product in the mirror made everything worth it.
Being the extrovert she is, the hairstylist was very open about her operation to her followers, even documenting her nose's recovery with daily TikTok videos.
While most fans were curious or supportive of it, she had her fair share of naysayers. One user commented that her nose was done poorly, saying "'di po yata symmetrical gawa ng nose."
Despite that though, Viñas was simply too happy to care. "Inuuna ko ung sarili kong happiness, para maka-inspire ako kasi masaya ako. Sa sarili ko, happy ako eh so kung hindi man siya pumantay o kung ano man, nakuha ko yung gusto ko, kaya deadma sa bashing. Hindi ko kinakahiya na gawa yung ilong ko. Wala akong pake."
For the drag superstar, operations such as these are all or nothing. If you're thinking of getting one yourself, here's her advice: "'Wag nilang tipirin. ‘Wag silang lalapit sa mga 'Doctor Quack Quack' kasi imbis na gumanda [sila], baka mas lalo [silang] chumaka."
"Kung may gusto ka talagang ipagawa, pag-ipunan mo kasi kaya mong ipunin ‘yan. Makakaya mo ‘yan in the right time and in the right place." We couldn't have said it better ourselves, Viñas!
