Four international makeup artists take your holiday makeup game from day to night.

1. From Desk...

Planning to paint the town post nine to five? Estée Lauder’s Bobby Wang gives you a fresh start for the day. Stay true to color with your foundation no matter what because come nighttime (a.k.a. party time), flash photography will expose all your sins (or your too white or too tan foundation—same thing). Try Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Makeup Liquid Compact (P2690, Rustan’s) for a base that you can carry around for touch-ups. A clean, blush- and contour-less base is workplace-friendly, but try not to be too proper: Add some good, thick fringes. Bobby says, “Fanned out fringes open the eyes”—but leave the embellished ones for night.

To Dancing

Vincent Xu mixes it up for the night. A clean, matte base is your best bet, but pack your best palettes into your office bag because shimmer will give you life after a long work day (plus dancing will give you a natural glow). Feel free to go all-out, but pick a spot and leave the rest clean to complement your pièce de résistance: We suggest the cute glitter shadow of your Instagram makeup dreams. For a smoky eye, Vincent suggests not to circle the eyes fully—this will make them look smaller. Instead, use Estée Lauder’s Magic Smoky Powder Shadow Stick in Sea Smoke (P1430, Rustan’s) as a base, then smudge Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner in Deep Plum and Royal Amethyst (P1430) over the eyeshadow.

2. From Date...

In situations where you’ll most likely be gazed upon longingly by a date, the priority is clear: looking your freshest. MAC Cosmetics’ International Artist Ryuko Lau shows us how to use the one tool that stands steadfast in giving us that glow worthy of a glazed goddess: highlighter. Pleasant is what you’re going for, so warm tones are best for a fresh “no-makeup” look. While people who don’t know makeup won’t be able to tell, you will, so make your glow seamless. Start from the base: Ryuko recommends MAC’s Strobe Cream (P1900, SM Aura) as a primer. After you’ve blended a MAC Waterweight Foundation (P2200) to melt into your skin, dust with a sheer loose powder, then tap onto your cheeks a Mineralize Skinfinish Natural (P2050) shade that’s two notches darker than your usual—it’ll warm up your face without appearing too pink.

To Dinner Party

It’s truly all about the skin, so come nighttime, just touch up with concealer without powdering too heavily to avoid that wrinkle-emphasizing cake. If you’re heading out, your purse will probably just contain your phone, keys, and two products, so pack these: a cooler-shade highlighter and a lipstick change. Blend MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade (P2050, SM Aura) from your cheekbones onto the lids to double as eyeshadow, then dab Liptensity in Galaxy Gray (P1300) or Hellebore (P1300) onto the middle of the mouth for a pretty stain. Ryuko also suggests lining your lower lashes with colored eyeliner, like the Technakohl Liner in Image Conscious (P1050).

3. From Brunch...

If you’ll be running from a midday catch-up with your bestie to getting ready in your car on the way to a formal, you don’t have many options—so make your look of choice count. When in doubt, choose a color that’s both polished and universally flattering. In this case, Bobbi Brown’s Asia-Pacific Artistry Manager Felix Nguyen does the trick with blue. A denim hue is perfect for day—it’s bright yet simple enough for brunch. The secret to a perfect canvas is extra plump skin, so layer these three before you start with color: First, pat on Bobbi Brown’s Hydrating Face Tonic (P1950, SM Aura) to tone that just washed skin, then let settle. Then moisturize with the Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm (P3800); once absorbed, finish with the Hydrating Eye Cream (P2900). Finish your foundation routine, then sweep on in a very tight line the denim-hued Long Wear Gel Liner in Union Jack (P1500) on lids primed with eye base and a sheer nude shadow.

To Ball

On the run to a formal minus a glam team? Stay simple: Go dark on the eyes, but bright on the skin. Start by extending your liner to a full cat eye, set with Bobbi Brown’s Eyeshadow in Navy (P1350, SM Aura), then highlight the brow bone with Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow in Bone (P1250). Layer the Smoky Eye Mascara over the Eye Opening Mascara (P1850/each), making sure to wipe the wands on a tissue before swiping to avoid clumps. Finish with the double-duty Pot Rouge in Powder Pink (P1700) for cheeks and lips, and top off with a camera-worthy glaze by sweeping the Shimmer Brick in Beige (P2750) over the cheekbones.
