Did You Know? Sadie Sink of "Stranger Things" Kept Her Look Completely Natural

Sadie Sink grew up under the kind of visibility most teenagers can barely imagine. When Stranger Things debuted on Netflix nearly 10 years ago, she stepped into a pop culture phenomenon that would follow her through some of her most formative years. Now, as the series heads into its final season, Sadie has become more vocal about the choices that help her stay grounded—especially the ones that keep her look refreshingly untouched even in showbiz.

In a recent cover story with Glamour, the Stranger Things actress spoke about her signature red hair and why she has never dyed it. “I’ve thought about it, but I’ve never dyed my hair,” she confessed. “Anyone who has red hair knows the ups and downs of your relationship with it... But no matter where you stand, what you hear your entire life as a redhead is to never dye your hair. [They often say,] ‘People pay so much money for that hair.’ So I never have, and I don’t think I will. I like the idea that my hair isn’t dyed.”

Her instinct to stay natural has been consistent over the years. In 2023, she told Refinery29 that while she almost never considered drastic changes for herself, cutting her hair short for a role felt surprisingly empowering. “Everyone knows me with long hair. It was always such a talking point; my hair was a very defining feature for me,” she said.

The same interview revealed how being a natural redhead shaped her. Four out of five kids in her family share the same hair color, but at school, she stood out. “Having anything different makes you more aware of it. There were certainly times where I wasn't sure that I liked having red hair. But now it's a signature. I can't imagine it with anything different.”

Her preference for a bare, untouched look extends beyond hair color. “I don’t have any piercings or tattoos or anything... I like the idea of never doing anything,” she told Glamour. 

According to her, staying unaltered also gives her flexibility as an actor. “Anything that I do hairwise, anything, is going to play a part. Nowadays, it’s hard to ignore how much people change looks and fashion, and all of that has blended into actors and the entertainment industry. Growing up in that, and actively being a part of that, is a little bit confusing sometimes because it’s like, Wait, what? Are we all supposed to look like this? Is this what everyone wants us to look like? I don’t want to do that, but everyone else is doing it.”

Her beauty routine also reflects that low-maintenance attitude. Sadie explained that she keeps things minimal, citing only a concealer and a brow brush for her makeup routine. She relies on professionals when necessary, but in her everyday life, her routine is simple and unfussy.

In a 2021 interview, the actress said she draws confidence from her character Max’s barely-there makeup on Stranger Things. Still, she’s not afraid to play with makeup when red carpets call, often leaning into light textures, skin tints, and anything that lets her freckles show. Foundation is rarely part of the equation—“just some SPF and I'll call it a day,” she said then.

But yes–her hair, meanwhile, remains as untouched as ever. In that same interview, she said: “This is all me… I don’t have any strict hair-care regimen that I stick to. No kind of color maintenance or anything,” she said, letting it be handled naturally despite frequent styling on set.
