Her simple yet practical wisdom is godsent!

“When you are living the best version of yourself, you inspire others to live the best versions of themselves,” Pauleen Luna Sotto once captioned her photo.

Suffice it to say, the 33-year-old actress is doing just that! Toned and absolutely radiant, Pauleen is the picture of health and flourishing. She was on a recent family trip to Amanpulo, and she took to social media glimpses of heartwarming moments with her husband, Vic Sotto, and daughter, Tali, as well as her trim physique.

What makes her inspiring is how, just like most of us, she had to put in the effort as exercise wasn’t always automatic nor easy for her. Totally raw and relatable, the mom of one opens up to Preview about her fitness journey and what worked for her. Her simple and practical wisdom is the godsent advice we need to hear right now! Direct yet encouraging, she truly is a fitness inspiration to glean from.

Pauleen Luna's Best Fitness Advice:

1. Make time to take care of yourself.

Previously touching up on mom guilt or the concept where a mother never feels like she’s being enough, Pauleen has now let go of the notion that she has to put herself last. She no longer feels at fault when she devotes a part of her day to simply being herself, and not "just mom”.

“I realized along the way though that taking care of myself doesn't mean I'm giving "less" of myself,” Pauleen tells Preview. Counterintuitively, it is actually in nourishing herself and filling her own cup that she becomes more energized and engaging. “As a matter of fact, when I am happy, when I do not "forget" about myself, I give my family more of myself,” she adds, acknowledging that it’s totally understandable for any new mother to experience mom guilt for the first few years.

Recently opting to go yaya-free, the work-from-home mom is super hands-on in rearing her four-year-old daugter. “An hour to a half a day is all I asked from my husband. I need that time for myself and that’s the time I exercise.” Pauleen shares.

2. Stick to a form of exercise you truly enjoy.

If you follow her on Instagram, you’ll be amazed that a) she diligently works out (in the cutest eye-catching workouts sets to boot!), and b) she looks like she’s absolutely enjoying, too! Sometimes even going on multiple rides a day, not only does she make working out look easy, she also makes it look incredibly fun.

We asked her pointblank what’s the secret to sticking to a regimen and her response struck a chord: “You must really want it! I've tried doing many diets and workouts in the past but I never really put my mind into it, not like this, not 100%! “

“Like what I said, I've tried so many different kinds of workouts, but I never really liked any. Or I would fall out of it easily. I tried spinning pre-pandemic and I didn't like it then!” she reveals. Her medical conditions: PCOS, Hypothyroid, and Insulin Resistance, made her rethink her lifestyle during the onset of the lockdowns. “I had such a hard time regulating my hormones and my weight. I wanted to look for something I can do for myself. Something that can help me and  [something that I can] enjoy at the same time,” she recounts.

“I would often see my friend, Nicole Hernandez, post her post-spin photos and I got so inggit with her sweat! Hahaha I wanted to sweat that much, too! So, I touched base and she hooked me up with Electric [Studio]. Of course it wasn't love at first ride cause I didn't have endurance and strength yet! But after the 4th- 5th ride, it has become a love affair I’m not willing to end, ever!” she gushes.

3. Start now!

Showing no signs of stopping, she has indeed come a long way. Apart from the changes in the scale, you can tell that even her mindset has been reframed. With no traces of mom guilt whatsoever, her advice to her past-self (and basically, all of us embarking on a fitness journey) is filled with nothing but grace and compassion: "I want to say that I should've started earlier, but truth be told, start when you feel you're ready and really commit to it. You can start at any point in your life but make sure you give your all, mind and body. And discipline is key!”
