Laura Mercier's Translucent Loose Setting Powder and Glow Finish have been chosen by the Preview team as the Best Setting Powder of 2019. This and 24 other products were reviewed by 25 real girls for this year's Preview Girls' Choice Awards to see if these products truly deserved their title. Ahead, entrepreneur Mikko Sumulong gives us her thoughts on the product:

With eternally dry skin like mine, I typically avoid setting powder. Other loose setting powders have agitated my skin further with constant use. Even if it didn't feel dry, it sure did look it. Finding powder that can bring life to my dry and dull skin without looking oily has been a struggle.

Recently, I've pared down my makeup routine to just face oil, a lightweight hydrating foundation, eyes, and setting spray. Moving from a full-face routine, I've been on the hunt for product that would keep me looking fresh from day to night.

The Product: Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder and Glow

What It Is

Not a stranger to setting powder, I was excited to try both Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder and Glow Finish. Laura Mercier's packaging is always on point. There’s something so luxe about the matte box and frosted jar. The inside is properly sealed, so there's no surprise powder poof when unboxing. I tried both products a couple different ways before finding how either one best fits into my daily routine.

How I Used It

Having used other brands of translucent setting powder before, I thought I'd try Laura Mercier’s Glow finish first. I started with my usual routine. I prep my skin with Drunk Elephant’' Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil, and apply a light layer of Fenty Beauty's Hydrating Longwear Foundation on areas of my face needing coverage. Then, using a Beauty Blender I set that with the powder. While it did its job of keeping my makeup on, I quickly realized that using Glow all over my undereye accentuated my dark circles and eyebags with its highlighter finish.

Learning from this, I tried using the Translucent Loose Setting Powder in combination with the Glow Finish instead. I applied my makeup the same way I usually do, using only the translucent powder to set. I then strategically applied the Glow finish on the bridge of my nose, cheekbones and inner eyes to double as a highlighter. I finished by spritzing Urban Decay's All-Nighter Setting Spray on top of all that.

Conclusion

I’ve been using the products daily since I got it. It was such an easy addition to my daily routine. I love how it evens out my skin, keeps my makeup on throughout the day.

For the most part, everything stayed put even poolside! It doesn't dry out my skin, doesn't make my foundation look ashy, and the glow finish keeps me looking fresh. No need for touchups! The hype around Laura Mercier’s powder is totally founded.
