Why Is the Beauty Industry Suddenly Obsessed with Food?

The saturation of food-and-beauty crossovers is no coincidence.

The line between dessert menus and makeup kits is growing thinner by the day. Moisturizers are now called butter, blushes come in jelly-like textures, and the benchmark glowing skin has mimics a glazed donut.

Even trending beauty looks are drawing inspiration from food. Take strawberry girl makeup: think dewy skin, flushed cheeks, faux freckles, and glossy lips in playful shades of red and pink.
Her close cousin would be the latte makeup trend. This look highlights a bronze base, with brown and beige tones being used for eyeshadow and lipstick to mimic the warm and neutral hues of the caffeinated drink.

Why Is the Beauty Industry Obsessed with Food?
The crossover between beauty and food has become too frequent to be a mere coincidence. Unpacking the layers of their connection reveals why these two sensory experiences resonate so deeply—and how they empower individuals to go, grow, and glow in their own way.

Below, we explore the forces driving this enduring and evolving relationship.
Beauty and food both evoke memories, emotion, and a sense of comfort.
The integration of food into the world of beauty is happening globally, but it takes on a distinctly special meaning when rooted in the Filipino experience. In our culture, taking time to eat, savor a meal, and ask loved ones if they’ve eaten carries deep significance. From everyday moments to life’s biggest milestones, memories are often tied to the food we shared.

Relating beauty to food evokes feelings of comfort, joy, and nostalgia. It frames beauty as an essential part of daily life—each time we reach for a product, we revisit scents, textures, and memories that stir something familiar and uplifting. Just as satisfying a craving can become a highlight of the day, using a favorite beauty product becomes a small act of indulgence. It’s a sensory experience that feels deeply personal. With this emotional layer, the fusion of food and beauty resonates more profoundly, naturally weaving itself into everyday life.
Consumers now expect beauty products to nourish as much as they beautify.
It’s no secret that the cost of living continues to rise, driven by economic challenges and inflation. As a result, beauty enthusiasts have become more discerning about the products they purchase. Consumers are seeking greater value from what they buy, and understandably so.

More skincare-infused makeup is entering the market, making these products feel more valuable—even as they’re often categorized as non-essential goods. There’s also a rising demand for clean beauty, which emphasizes natural ingredients and environmental sustainability. Just as we’ve grown used to checking the nutritional value of our food, we’re now becoming more mindful of what’s in our makeup, wanting to know exactly what we’re putting on our skin.

In response, brands are shifting their focus toward transparency and highlighting ethical rituals of self-care or practices that matter and are built to last.
Food and beauty are both universal art forms.
Taste isn’t the be-all and end-all of the culinary experience. The colors on the plate, the shape of the serving, and the texture of the dish all play a part. With these elements, food preparation becomes an art form. The harmony among these factors draws interest and sets the tone for the entire experience. The same is true for beauty.

The range of shades, the packaging and applicators, and the finish of each product are all key considerations for beauty enthusiasts. These elements heavily influence how people feel about their purchases; when they work together seamlessly, a product is more likely to earn a place in someone’s holy grail kit.

Beyond the individual components, the act of doing skincare or applying makeup in itself is also an art form, with the skin as canvas and products as paint. Like food, beauty goes beyond visual appeal. Each bite or swipe holds meaning, creating a sensory experience that resonates personally.
Tasteful Collaborations
Some of Our Favorite Food and Beauty Collabs
Sharing is caring, they say. This no longer applies to food only, but also to beauty—albeit, not literally. Several brand activations that showcase the crossover between the two industries are becoming widely spread across social media, possibly for all the reasons listed above.

Gathering in one place to celebrate beauty and to share a blissful treat at the same time are two things that lead to a more memorable and intimate experience. Below are some tasteful collaborations that embody this.
Laneige Philippines x Randy’s Donuts
The beloved K-beauty brand Laneige recently introduced the Glaze Craze Tinted Lip Serum. Its shades are named and designed after delectable flavors, such as Maple Glaze, Raspberry Jam, Peach Glaze, Strawberry Sprinkles, and Cinnamon Sugar. What allows it to gently hug the lips and glide on smoothly is its applicator, which comes in a mini donut shape.

Who better for Laneige to team up with than Randy’s Donuts? Over one weekend, they treated the first 100 customers to purchase a half dozen of donuts—complete with custom donut flavors for the occasion, of course—with an assortment of Laneige travel minis. The first 30 got their own Glaze Craze, too!

Sunnies Face x Jamba Juice
Adding to Sunnies Face’s long roster of must-try lippies is the Juicetint, which is a hydrating lip oil infused with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides. Upon application, it starts off glossy, then melts into a lightweight tint that leaves a soft stain—like you just had a sip of your favorite juice drink.

Though there seems to be a current surge, collaborations between beauty and food (or beverages) are not entirely new. Last year, Sunnies Face partnered with Jamba Juice. They introduced Juicetint Smoothies in the flavors Strawberry Pop, Citrusy Peach, and Berry Gem, all of which were natural blends whose colors were reminiscent of the lip tint’s shades. The first 100 to avail of a smoothie were gifted with a Juicetint voucher.

The appetite for the blend of beauty and culinary seems to only be growing stronger, and it won’t be surprising to see this fusion gain even more depth and intentionality moving forward. With each of these experiences being both social and personal, it’s a crossover that we’ll always have room for.
