If there's anyone who can make us believe in our DIY hair skills, it's Tricia Gosingtian. She's been cutting her own bangs for years, and anyone who follows her knows her self-done fringe always looks good. Did you know that she even often cuts her fellow content creators' bangs pre-pandemic? No joke!
"I swear I must have been a hairstylist in my past life," Tricia quips on her Instagram stories. And while she may be joking, her recent DIY haircut is proof of such hairstyling skills. Get this: She gave herself both see-through bangs and curtain bangs in one go, all from the comfort of her own home! She shared exactly how she did it, too, and we have all the details below!
(Ed's note: If you're not confident about cutting your own hair, book an appointment with a professional hairstylist instead. Don't forget to follow all safety protocols when you step out!)

How to Cut Sheer and Curtain Bangs
1. Part and section your hair.
Start by parting your hair in the middle. And then, using your ear as a guide, create a one- to two-inch section at the front part of your head. Tie the rest of your hair back to avoid accidentally cutting them!
2. Make a triangle section to create your fringe.
Make a small triangle section where your hair is parted in the middle. Remember: The smaller the triangle, the thinner your bangs will be!

3. Cut your bangs and layers.
According to Tricia, you can cut either above or below your eyes, depending on how long you want your bangs to be (click here for a guide according to your face shape). For the face-framing layers, cut until your jawline.
4. Do your finishing touches.
To blend the fringe and long layers (a.k.a. your new curtain bangs) together, cut the ends diagonally until everything looks seamless.

What's great about this self-haircut combo is it's much lower-maintenance your average full fringe. You can always tuck your curtain bangs behind your ears any time to hide them, or blend your see-through fringe with the longer layers once they grow too long.
