Sensitive skin? Read up!

Every time we spend money on a product, we obviously want it to work. Which is why, we find it hard to throw something away—even when we suspect that it might be the cause of our breakouts. You can call it foolish, but we call it practical! So unless you're experiencing an extreme reaction, put that new purchase to the test before you toss it out. And nope, you won't have to visit your dermatologist to find out. Here are three at-home tests you can definitely rely on:

1. Patch test

This is by far the simplest test to check if you're allergic to a product. It involves applying a small amount to either of the following: the inside of your forearm, behind your ears, or to your chest. But if you have a specific area where your skin tends to react quicker, apply it there. Wait for the product to set or leave it on for a few hours and wait for a reaction. If there's none, it's most likely safe for you to use!

2. Stop test

The stop test works for products you're already suspicious about. To do it, use the product in question for a few days up to a week. Once a breakout occurs, stop using it for a week and see if no further irritation occurs. You can repeat the process a few times to make sure, unless of course you've begun experiencing extreme irritation. It's more tedious than a patch test, but if you're testing an investment beauty product, you definitely need this!

Preview Tip: You can do a stop test only on a specific area (like a patch test) as well to minimize areas of possible irritation!

3. Isolation

One of the smartest ways to test skin care is to try one product at a time. We call this isolation since you know that you've only tried one new product, and once you start breaking out, it's definitely because of the new guy.

To start, you have to be sure of all the products in your routine first. They should all be tried, tested, and approved by your skin! Then, begin incorporating the new product accordingly. After that, all you have to do is wait and hope for the best!
