After leaving everyone in awe with Beatrice Luigi Gomez's Bakunawa costume for Miss Universe, Cebuano designer Axel Que is sending yet another one of his creations to the international stage. This time, it's for our Miss World 2021 bet Tracy Maureen Perez, who is currently vying for the crown in Puerto Rico.
According to the designer, Tracy's costume was inspired by Mayari, the goddess of the moon and the daughter of Bathala (the supreme being in Filipino mythology).
"Hailed as the most beautiful deity, she has complete dominion of the world at night. The moon has been revered as a celestial being by most ancient civilizations in antiquity. Apart from its mysterious allure, it has also been though to have great cosmic influence on the mortal realm," Axel writes on Instagram.
The costume seems to take inspiration from the traditional silhouette of the terno, but with a modern maximalist twist. For one, its serpentine silhouette made the garment's embellished surface even more grandiose, not to mention extra flattering for Tracy's figure.
"My rendition incorporated a lot of traditional forms as the base silhouette, with slight exaggerations in the proportion and volume," Axel shares.
"For embellishment, I crafted white [and] purple moon flowers (morning glory moon vine) from scratch, and added the gradient shading in the middle to give it more depth. Pearls and tassels thoughtfully border the hemlines."
For Tracy's "halo," Axel designed a floral headpiece with rows of tassels for movement. They completed the look with dangling earrings by Christopher Munar and purple platform heels by Jojo Bragais.

IYCMI, Tracy has already advanced to Miss World 2021's Top 30. This is thanks to her win at the pageant's Head to Head Challenge, where she delivered a speech about her advocacy for single mothers. The other winners of the challenge include the delegates from Venezuela, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Cameroon, Nepal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Botswana.
The new Miss World will be crowned this December 16 (December 17 in the Philippines).
Good luck, Tracy!
