Sneakers were once seen as "rugged" shoes made solely for outdoor activities, but now, they're touted as one of the ultimate status symbols that can even be pitted against the glorious designer handbag.
Since the rise of luxury streetwear, we've seen sneakers in innumerable iterations, from the most minimalist to extreme avant garde. The year has just begun, and there have already been a slew of fresh sneaker drops that'll have us drooling until the release date. Here, we've weeded out the most wearable picks for your consideration. Enjoy!
1. Adidas Stan Smith Recon in Off White
Everybody loves a classic pair of Stan Smiths, but whether or not you already have enough pairs in your shoe collection, you may want to drop everything and consider this latest release: an off white colorway of the iconic Stan Smith Recon. The cream color gives the shoe a lived-in effect, while the fine stitching and sleek design provide a polished appeal. Learn more about it here.
2. COMME des GARÇONS Homme Plus x Nike Air Max 95
Since it debuted at Paris Fashion Week last year, we haven't stopped thinking about these handsome, "unfinished" kicks from COMME des GARÇONS and Nike. What makes these Air Max shoes a cut above the rest is the deconstructed look care of the top-stitched side panels. We find it's insouciantly stylish.
3. Valentino x Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 SD
One of Onitsuka Tiger's most emblematic models is the Mexico 66 SD, which—surprise, surprise—has just been reinterpreted by Valentino's creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli. His take on the sporty footwear? Neon colors. A huge Valentino logo splashed accross the side. We especially love the iconic red-and-blue motif, refashioned with the Italian brand's red insignia.
4. CLOT x Nike Air Force 1 Low in Rose Gold
Streetwear brand CLOT released Nike Air Force 1's last year in "Black Silk" and "Royal University Blue Silk." Well, fans of pretty pastels will be pleased to know that there now exists a "Rose Gold Silk" version. Everything's practically dipped in the gorgeous rose hue, from the Swoosh, the laces, to the luxurious Chinese-patterned silk.
5. Dior x Air Jordan 1 Low
You probably screamed your lungs out when the Dior x Nike Air Jordan collaboration was revealed online, but try and hold your breath once you see the low-cut version of the same model! It looks just as classy and casual, and it's wearable shape makes it easy to style for everyday outfits. Both high-cut and low-cut versions are set to be released this April, so watch out!
6. Vans Slip Skool
What if you could wear two of your favorite Vans kicks at the same time? Well, that impossible dream has actually turned into reality in the form of the Slip Skool—a hybrid of the Vans Slip-On and Old Skool models. The familiar checkerboard print slip-on is topped off with a transparent upper, which resembles your favorite Old Skool shoes. It even comes in a red and blue colorway! Learn more about it here.
7. Converse "Twisted Classics" Collection for Spring 2020
Fan of everything vintage-inspired? You'll love everything from Converse's "Twisted Classics" collection, which carries updated versions of the Chuck Taylor All Star and Chuck 70, among others. There's even a hybrid shoe—our favorite—that takes cues from the Chuck 70, dubbed the CPX70, a futuristic pair with a chunky sole and spliced logo. Learn more about it here.
8. Prada x Adidas Superstar
When Prada's collaboration with Adidas was announced in December 2019, we were totally floored, so imagine our excitement when we found out about the newest release. It's another Superstar model, except with black stripes and a solid black Prada logo. It retains the "Made in Italy" embossed print to flaunt its Italian quality!
