Creating monumental decisions on faith and morality, upholding sacred doctrine and teachings, and serving as the spiritual guide for billions of people—these are some of the things that the Pope is responsible for. With Pope Leo XIV stepping into this role only a little over a month ago, the Catholic Church looks forward to the ways he will fulfill the duty entrusted to him by God and by his fellow leaders.

In the meantime, people have been following his public activities and appearances, and one of the many standout things is how the Pope is beginning to express his sartorial taste. The fashion choices of pontiffs have been a global conversation through the years, from Pope Benedict XVI’s controversial red loafers to Pope Francis’ affordable wristwatch.
Pope Leo XIV Sports a Baseball Cap
Pope Leo XIV is a Chicago native. Naturally, he roots for the White Sox, one of the city’s teams in Major League Baseball or MLB. This allegiance was confirmed by the pontiff’s brother, John Prevost, in an interview with WGN TV. The declaration of support was further solidified by Pope Leo XIV’s recent public appearance in a black baseball cap adorned with the team’s famous logo.

His faith in the team has been firm for decades now, with MLB sharing footage of him in attendance at the 2005 World Series, where the team rose to victory and broke their 88-year losing streak.

The casual look was donned by the Pope when he met with newlywed couples, making both an eye-catching statement and a deviation from traditional papal and wedding attire codes. Now, not only is he the first Pope from America, but he's also among the few popes to make a casual pairing with his white cassocks.

The love for the sport doesn’t end there—Pope Leo XIV recently sent a video message from the Vatican to the White Sox stadium. It served as his first address to the United States, where he encouraged viewers to become a symbol of hope, saying “That light […] on the horizon is not easy to see, and yet as we grow in our unity, we can discover that light growing brighter and brighter and we can become that message of hope to promote peace and unity throughout the world.”
