Local fine jeweler Paul Syjuco is known for his opulent and substantially-sized jewelry gem pieces that anyone who wears his work automatically exhibits a fashion statement. But for his new PS ILY Twist collection, he surprises us with dainty yet minimalistic jewelry pieces that are perfect for the modern woman to put on everyday. Composed of ear cuffs, rings, and earrings, this new collection is meant to be layered with his prior two collections PS ILY and Unif0rm x PS ILY.
Each piece appears to reflect what Paul drew the inspiration from—Art Nouveau style of the 19th century. And just like his past Muse collection, his fascination for art and architecture gave birth to the new designs. “During my travels, I would take lots of photos of gates, rails, doors and windows. I was always impressed by how something as rigid and hard as metal can look so fluid; so lace-like,” he shares. He mentions that his concept for Twist has been in his mind for years now, and now that the perfect moment has come, he introduces us to a seven-piece capsule collection.
Paul precisely made the jewelries’ details to look feminine yet bold and edgy, and simple yet lavish. Hence the collection’s name, he successfully translated the beautiful wrought iron gates and other Art Nouveou principles into the jewelries. “There’s also that extra dimension from the bends and curves—the twists,” he explains. Aside from the obvious coined term, Paul says that Twist also describes “the changes during this extraordinary time.”
Due to their spherical shape, every movement you make can reflect light from the engraved luxurious diamonds set in each piece. According to the gemologist, they took the collection’s photos indoors and in daylight. “We also wanted to show the light at the proverbial end of the tunnel. We made use of natural light to signify being hopeful in spite of everything,” he further shares.
