Sophisticated and graceful—in the sea of volume and texture at the Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival 2018, there was something so subtle yet powerful about Marichu Tan’s collection. Featuring elegant silhouettes and champagne hues, models exuded a timeless beauty in pieces reminiscent of European aristocracy. With remarkable embellishment work in the addition of beads, crystals, lace, and ruffles, there’s an impressive attention to detail in Marichu’s work.
Below, Marichu tells us more about her design process, her inspiration for her collection, and more!
How would you describe your aesthetic and design philosophy?
"Eclectic. My design principle is to make timeless pieces that will complement my client's personality; detailed lines, elaborate embellishments, for them to look classy and regal."
Do you have a signature design or key element evident throughout your collections?
"My key elements in my collection are the lustrous Spanish laces, french laces, embroideries, crystals, and beads."
Where do you usually draw inspiration from? How about for this collection?
"From my travels. [This collection was] inspired by Antonio Gaudi's iconic La Pedrera—the building with features drawn from nature. It’s a total work of art."
Can you walk us through your creative process as you designed your PMFF collection?
"I am greatly inspired from my recent trip to Spain. Mesmerized by its lavished architecture; my collection is with a Spanish influence. From the sourcing of spanish laces, pearls, and crystals. I incorporate different materials in one piece, adding embroideries and hand beading. Most pieces are in multiple ruffles deriving details from flamenco dancers."
Where can we buy your pieces?
