Local designer Bessie Besana's collection mixes the old with the new.

Bessie Besana reminisces yesteryears' fashion in his collection, titled Abaniko, for Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival. Infusing modern design with timeless silhouettes, the designer's nostalgia is apparent in his clothes, rehashed through intricate laser trimmings and pleated finishing.

Despite the vintage theme, Bessie's elegant designs are certainly accessible by all ages. It was further exhibited through his pastel color story, featuring muted tones of yellow and pinks taking over the runway.

Perhaps what's most notable about Abaniko is Bessie's play on sheer fabric to add a different dimension to his designs. Take, for example, this basic tube top and trousers combo, which was made more interesting thanks to the relaxed see-through cape with an asymmetrical hemline. With the added dainty touch, the outfit is modest enough for the working woman yet also sophisticated for a fancy dinner party right after.
