If you haven’t yet watched To All the Boys I've Loved Before, then we suggest you grab yourself a bowl of popcorn and do so, stat! Netflix’s latest teen romance offering, which is based on a 2014 novel of the same name, has been dominating our Facebook and Instagram feeds for a while now—and with plenty of good reasons. For one, we’re totally obsessed with Peter Kavinsky, ahem, Lara Jean’s style!
Luckily, the author of the book, Jenny Han, revealed the reason behind Lara Jean’s aesthetic on Twitter. “I wanted them to understand that even though To All the Boys I've Loved Before is a contemporary realistic story and not Harry Potter or Hunger Games, her style is crucial to understanding the character,” she wrote. "It might not be what a teenaged guy would find sexy, but it’s what she feels pretty in, and for an introverted girl, it’s a way for her to express herself. Just like her bedroom."
Jenny added, “It's ‘60s meets ‘90s meets Asian streetwear. She is a girl that looks at Korean fashion blogs, goes to vintage shops, scours the internet for the perfect thing.” The author then went on to reveal some of the photos she used for the mood boards of Lara Jean’s style. Spy anyone who looks familiar? Well, that's because our very own local blogger Tricia Gosingtian is obviously one of the inspiration for Lara Jean's OOTDs!
In an interview with Preview, Tricia admits that she herself was surprised. "People started tagging me on Twitter when my photo was included in Jenny Han’s mood board, and one of them even sent me a side by side comparison of my outfit beside Lara Jean’s," she says. "I’m sure the author just found my photo on Pinterest without really knowing who I was, but I’m all the more grateful that she found my style worthy of Lara Jean’s character and wardrobe."

Being a fan of the movie herself, Tricia naturally felt excited when she found out. "I haven’t read the book but I’ve watched the film thrice! I couldn’t get enough of the cuteness, so I rewatched it every time I had the chance. It was the kind of story that teenage me would’ve absolutely adored. Now that I’m an adult, watching it made me feel like I was 18 all over again," she tells Preview, also noting how Lara Jean's style really resonates with her own. "I loved her outfits in the movie! It definitely reminded me of my own style, specifically my Lookbook days circa 2011-2014. 10/10 would wear everything in a heartbeat."
How awesome, right?
