Before she picked up a mic or stepped on stage, Julie Anne San Jose's childhood was spent playing dress-up with her sister Joanna Marie. Their mom had a natural inclination to fashion, and the two of them became living dolls for her to style. Over time, this affinity to clothing rubbed off on them, and even though they've already went down their respective career paths, a mutual love for dressing up has remained intact.

Fast forward to today, and the two siblings can proudly call themselves owners of Mundane Club, their very own clothing brand. A passion project through and through, the online store is the manifestation of Julie Ann and Joanna's desire to spread the joy of dressing up, hand in hand with a message on sustainability and simplicity.

What is Mundane Club?

The word "mundane" often comes with a negative connotation, implying a dry plainness sans any zing or brightness. This, however, is something the two sisters want to redefine. "If there’s anything these trying times have taught us, [it's that we have] to love our ordinary days to the point when they’re not ordinary anymore. We don't always have to be adventurous or out there to enjoy life," they say.

They go on, stating: "Sometimes, we find joy in simple things. Seeing and wearing our clothes as a way of promoting sustainability and simplicity can make a difference." This is why their maiden collection was comprised of minimalist, fuss-free pieces one can wear for any occassionno attention-hogging colors or prints in sight, only straightforward designs in gentle yet pleasing hues. Miss Keith, a good friend of the two, steps in as the in-house designer, with Olan Roque, their uncle who's also a designer, helping make the illustrations come to life.

How did Mundane Club start?

Equipped with this vision and charged by their inherited love for fashion, the duo set out to produce their own line of linenwear dresses and coord sets. Their first collection had three designs, each named after their second names (ICYDK, they have a third sister named Jan Christine).

Like any burgeouning brand, the lack of manpower was a hurdle they had to conquer. "Since [we were] new to this field, we [had] to start from scratch, from the simplest to the [most] complex aspects," they tell Preview. "We make our own brand materials, packaging, and [are] very hands on [with] every single detail." For a club that was only founded last April, they've already proved their mettle, something that can be sensed from their dedication to serve their patrons with only the best.

SHOP: Minimalist Pieces from Mundane Club

Mundane Club's first collection, as mentioned, takes after the Tres Marias of the San Jose clan. First up is the Anne coords set, which includes a sleeveless top and a flowy pair of trousers (you can purchase them seperately, by the way).

Following it is the Christine dress, a collared wrap-around frock that can be worn as is, or as a flowy layering piece, perfect for this country's daily heatwaves.

While Mundane Club is still very much an "ingenue" among other brands that champion minimalist style, it isn't opposed to the idea of growth. Julie Anne and Joanna share that they plan to make the brand more accessible for stylistas everywhere, and they are more than open to the idea of collaborating with other local stores. Plus, they did already tease a couple of menswear pieces in their sophomore collection, so that's certainly something worth looking forward to.

You can cop Mundane Club's pieces by shooting them a message on their Instagram account here.
