They're perfect for any occasion!

Unlike other articles of clothing, footwear is more challenging to shop for. You have to really consider the shoe's comfort factor. Otherwise, you're in for days and nights of blisters and grueling pain. Yikes! A fashion-savvy girl, however, is wise to choose shoes that not only sartorially satisfy but are 100% comfortable as well. And a great example for that is a trusty pair of mules. Just to give you a refresher, mules are basically "backless" shoes that are often times closed. They can either have flat soles or heels, and there are also designs that are open-toed. It's every fashion girl's secret to achieving the oomph factor of high-heeled shoes without the discomfort. Here are all the pieces you can style them with!

1. Wear it with jeans.

Here, a pair of flat red mules is paired with high-waisted cropped jeans and a sleeveless black top for a dressier look. This style is a classic pair to own so you can never go wrong with it! If red is too colorful for you, black or brown leather ones would be the best choice, and they can also be worn to the office.

2. Wear it with colored pants.

Paulina Ortega dons wooden-heeled white mules with yellow pants and a navy blue linen top—a cool outfit for sunny days!

3. Wear it with shorts.

If you think that mules can only be worn with trousers or jeans, well, think again. Mules are actually good shoes to pair with shorts as this elevates the entire look. We love how Camille Co chose patent leather mules and matched it with a blazer of the same color.

4. Wear it with a dress.

Renee de Guzman makes the case for mules as a go-to pair for lazy days in the city. Here, she dresses down a voluminous dress with laidback mesh mules. Think of it as the more sophisticated version of your typical "running errands" sandals!

5. Wear it with pastels.

It seems that mules are best worn with pastels as seen in the outfits above! Renee de Guzman and Camille Co both finished off their lilac looks with equally dainty mules that added a pop of color. This just proves how the color of your shoes should never be taken for granted! Also, mules have the illusion of boots (sans the heaviness), making it the optimal choice for casual days because you could easily slip in and out of them.

6. Wear it with leather.

Okay, now that we've covered casual outfits, let's move on to dressier occasions, like say, a fancy dinner or a night out with friends. If your style is in the grunge, androgynous side of the spectrum, perhaps you should consider wearing mules with your next leather-centered outfit. The shoes make it look like you didn't put much thought into your look (when in fact you did)! Insouciance is a skill.

7. Wear it with a monochromatic look.

If you're tired of wearing the same old dad sneakers or boots to give your monochromatic look a little pizzazz, why don't you take it down a notch with a pair of mules? Trust us, it'll emphasize your boldly colored ensemble even more without reducing your footwear style points.

8. Wear it with a jumpsuit.

Trade in those pumps for a pair of bright satin mules to refresh your wardrobe. It's an interesting touch to an ordinary jumpsuit and can even act as a conversation piece, especially if your mules are as showstopping as Lissa Kahayon's.

9. Wear it with leggings.

The leggings-and-flats combo may be a tried-and-tested formula for fashion girls of all ages, but why don't you keep things interesting by donning a pair of gold embellished mules? You can even match it with your handbag as they did in yesteryears.

10. Wear it with a silk dress.

While long silk dresses look best with high heels (especially if you've got a curvy figure), you can cheat your way to looking your best with a pair of kitten heel mules. A little height plus the comfort of backless shoes? We're sold.

11. Wear it with all things festive.

If you've got a ton of party-ready outfits but haven't found the right footwear for your holiday looks, grab a pair of statement mules as seen in the outfit above (ahh, we love the blue bow detail!). From feathery skirts, silk camisoles, puff-sleeved blouses, to tea-length dresses, a cool pair of statement mules will up the ante of any outfit.

12. Wear it with similar prints.

Yup, matching your shoes with your bag may be an outdated style trick but it seems like it's experiencing a renaissance as of late. Georgina Wilson showed off her own take on the technique by matching her mules with her blazer instead! The checkered print was also a refreshing choice.

13. Wear it with a coat.

As we've mentioned, mules are the more comfortable version of heels. That being said, you might as well consider to bring a neutral-colored pair to your next trip abroad. Cop a pair in black, nude, sand, or any color that will easily match any of your outfits. Just make sure the heel isn't too high or you'll be regretting it after hours of walking (and taking photos for the 'gram).
