Hilary Duff just tied the knot with longtime boyfriend Matthew Koma! The two exchanged vows last Saturday, December 22, in a low-key wedding at Hilary's own home. If you've always imagined the Lizzie McGuire actress saying "I do" in that frothy white gown she wore on A Cinderella Story (ugh, iconic!), well you're wrong. True fans know that she's a laidback, easygoing person, and her fashion choices reflect that. Yesterday, she finally posted an official wedding photo of her and Matthew. Here, we can only see so little of her Jenny Packham dress, but Vogue just shared a full-length video of Hilary spilling all the juicy wedding dress details to finally satiate our thirst for knowledge.
In the video, British designer Jenny Packham describes the gown's simple yet well-thought-out design, which made use of stretch crepe. The dress features a "fishtail" (or serpentina) skirt, cape-like sleeves, which merge with the gown's train, and "empowered shoulders." At the back, a hundred buttons trail from the waist down to the hemline. Jenny says that Hilary's direction was very modern, and this translated in the gown's "bold look."
Before trying on the gown, Hilary takes us through Matthew's tear-jerking proposal, which happened along a beautiful park in Dumbo, New York—and it's too cute not to cue any swooning. To her surprise, Matthew whipped out something he's been "working on" for her: an illustrated 'love story' book! "It was so sweet and really special," she sighs.
To add more excitement, Hilary also shares her beauty look for the big day, which comprised of relaxed waves tucked behind her ears (so as not to cover her gown's high neckline), all topped with an elegant headband from Jennifer Behr.
Finally, Hilary reappears behind closed doors wearing her dream gown, looking absolutely stunning nonetheless. It was "everything I've dreamed of," she gushes. "The shoulders are so exciting to me... I didn't want a very big dress. I wanted a statement dress."
“The end result of what we came up with Jenny and my gown is exactly how I wanted him to see me. I think, how he would envision how I would look like as a bride—you know not some poufy beaded thing. It would be very, like, gorgeous but toned down," she says of her choice.
We think that Hilary's dress is definitely a powerful look that strays away from typical dresses of today with all the frou-frou and extravagance. That's not the only great thing about it, though. While showing off her dream gown, Hilary revealed a little personal touch hidden underneath the dress: her and Matthew's initials and their wedding date neatly embroidered alongside her children's initials as well. It's rare for modern brides to think of wedding gowns as heirlooms but we love how Hilary breathed new life into this oft-overlooked tradition.
"Marriage is such a huge commitment and marriage is not always easy. And, I think sometimes getting to remember this specific way when we said specific things throughout the course of our lifetime—things like the dress and handwritten vows and all of those—are tokens of your love and dedication and your promise."

Hilary and Matthew's relationship started in 2017. The couple welcomed their daughter, Banks Violet Bair, last October 2018. Banks is Hilary's second child, the first being Luca Cruz, her son with ex-husband Mike Comrie.
Earlier this year, Hilary and Matthew both took to Instagram to announce their engagement. Details of the wedding were kept hush-hush, but a source tells People that the backyard wedding was "small and low-key. Only family and close friends."
Congratulations, Hilary and Matthew!
