The Y2K wave has fully consumed every stylista's consciousness, and maisons are following suit with reissues of their most beloved models from that era. The Chloe Paddington, Balenciaga CityLouis Vuitton x Murakami Speedy, and more have regained it-bag status, exemplifying fashion's cyclical behavior. In the case of Fendi, a house that has attained timelessness by constantly referencing its own storied history, the Spy makes a bold reintroduction. No longer stowed away in obscurity, the bag is given new life as it enters today's sartorial group chat.

Long overdue for a comeback, the Spy, in all of its nonchalant, shapeless glory, totally deserves a spot in anyone's arm candy rotation. Learn why below.

The Fendi Spy Is Making a Comeback
The Spy keeps you guessing with its intriguing name. Characterized by a slouchy hobo silhouette and a twisted handle, the tote has a secret compartment situated behind the front flap. Early 2000s icons such as Nicole Richie, Victoria Beckham, and Janet Jackson must've stuffed anything from coins to sticks of gum in the tiny pouch. The main cavity is quite cavernous and easy to wear—the type that you can keep up with you as you stomp through the streets of NYC. The bag is clutched around one's fingers or anchored on the elbow or shoulder. In essence, it was a bag that could adhere to any lifestyle.

The bag had a resurgence for Fendi's Spring/Summer 2025 show, perfectly timed for the maison's centennial celebration.  The Spy was given a sleek makeover—while it retained its rounded corners, it now featured a more defined structure that allowed for a mix of fabrications. It was paraded down the runway in shearling, satin, and various leathers, rendered in shades ranging from clean neutrals to candy-like hues.

The covert compartment was, of course, retained in its redesign. It's what makes a Spy, a Spy, after all. The woman behind it, Silvia Venturini Fendi, emphasizes how vital the pocket was in the bag's DNA. From her perspective, the Spy is not merely meant to be a carrier.

“I liked the idea of the secret compartment because a bag is a place where you keep your most intimate belongings. It’s an extension of yourself,” she expresses. “I like that there might be something you’d want to keep just for you, that’s why I conceived the hidden pocket.” The compartment is opened by pressing a button, almost like a password uttered solely by the owner.

How Much the Fendi Spy Costs
The Spy comes in a relatively bulky size, ideal for individuals who require more than just their bare essentials when heading out. True to its original design, the reedition measures 22 cm in height, 20 cm in depth, and 48 cm in width. Online, three fail-safe neutral colorways are available, each one done in supple calfskin leather. The piece also makes use of premium gold hardware, which can be found lining the famed hidden compartment.

The standard leather ones fetch for over P280,000, while a tactile and downright adorable shearling version is priced at P320,000.
Something that wasn't made available to stylistas in 2005 was a petite iteration of the Spy. This small, handheld iteration measures 18 cm in height, 12 cm in depth, and 32 cm in width. And yes, despite its minimized shape, it still has the namesake cavity, ready to house the things you keep in secrecy. This size comes in a fun range of vibrant colors, with price tags of about P215,000. Who else thinks this would look irresistibly cute with a trinket (or two) hinged on its handle?

Style Stars Wearing the Fendi Spy
Back and better than ever, the Spy has already made rounds in the OOTDs of today's most fashionable. Filipina style icon Heart Evangelista sported a caramel-hued version during a recent trip to Bangkok, pairing it with equally chunky Fendi platforms. Meanwhile, Asian heartthrobs such as STRAY KIDS' Bang Chan and Japanese actor Ren Meguro wore black iterations of the tote with their boy-next-door 'fits. Both Mina of TWICE and Song Yuki of G-IDLE were fans of the piece's soft-to-the-touch feel, a quality that English music sensation PinkPantheress also couldn't resist.
