ICYMI, Greta Gerwig is bringing Barbie to the big screen with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling top billing the production. Our first official peek into Barbie world came in the form of Barbie pulling up in a pink convertible, and from the looks of it, the '9os hit was right—"life in plastic, it's fantastic." We're definitely calling shotgun for what seems to be a fun ride and an even more exuberant style trend: Barbiecore.

What Is the Barbiecore trend?
Debuting in 1959, what started out as a toy to address the lack of "grown up dolls" would in time turn to be a pop culture icon. Barbara Millicent Roberts embodied a stylish and empowered woman that girls all over the world became acquainted to. The Barbiecore aesthetic, in a way, underscores a certain nostalgia as we collectlively longed for much simpler times pre-corona, but more importantly, it injects zest as we ease back into dressing up again. It brings a playful femininity that is equal parts sexy and fun. It is an invitation to let loose and have fun the best way we know how: getting pretty in pink.

From sleek and simple to glam and over the top, there are no hard rules in this fashion play. All it entails is picking a flattering cut in a hot pink hue and working it like the head-turning doll that you are. Hailey Bieber nailed the look by pairing her intricate Versace corset dress with Barbie-approved platforms boots. Lizzo also got the memo when she came dressed in head to toe Valentino.

Fun fact: Apart from buzz around the film, this sartorial movement can be traced to the Italian fashion house's Fall-Winter 2022 collection, where creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli worked with Pantone in coming up with the color Valentino Pink PP that was central to their collection.

Others who were tickled pink include Megan Fox who was hard to ignore in her metallic Andamane coords, and Dua Lipa who tapped Balenciaga for a custom-made lace catsuit.

Filipina Celebrities Wearing the Barbiecore Trend
Never late to the party, our local trendsetters have also been spotted giving Barbiecore a spin! Check them out below:
1. Kylie Verzosa
Miss International 2016's ode to the early aughts sizzled in It's Showtime. We love the attention to detail and how the Mean Girls-inspired 'fit was completed with rose-colored accessories that Barbie would definitely cop.

In another pink-on-pink look, Kylie once again channeled the Mattel doll in a feathery crop top and fitted fuschia pants.

2. Max Collins
Channeling the retro spirit of Barbie, Max Collins was vintage-chic in her high-cut swimmies and equally high ponytail. The cutout in her torso keeps this fresh and contemporary.

3. Sofia Andres
Looking like the quintessential Malibu Barbie, Sofia injected her youthful sparkle by choosing hot pink for her classic maillot. Temperatures definitely rose!

During her trip to Switzerland, the celebrity mom didn't fail to rock the Barbiecore aesthetic yet again this time wearing a bright pink silk dress that had her looking both youthful and elegant. Adorning her feet were pink heels to complete her doll-like lewk.

4. Sarah Lahbati
Sarah was a total stunner in her off-shoulder mini dress. She looked like a modern fairytale princess in this vibrant hue and her Amina Muaddi stilts. We can totally imagine Barbie wearing this!

5. Lorin Gutierrez
Leave it to the 18-year-old to serve us the sultry Y2K x Barbiecore crossover we didn't know we needed. She tempered her backless tube dress with a lady-like quilted purse in dainty blush.

6. Chie Filomeno
Chie proves that less is more in her fuchsia frock. She was nothing short of electric in this head-turning hue that showcases her bubbly personality!

7. Pia Wurtzbach
We can't look at Pia Wurtzbach's look and not be reminded of Barbie, especially with her wavy tresses and baby pink bustier bodycon dress that fits her like a glove.

Queen P marked her 33rd birthday with none other than a Barbie themed photoshoot! Her first layout found her in a fitted gown with an oversized bow at the back, likely inspired by Marilyn Monroe's iconic pink frock in the film Gentleman Prefer Blondes.

As for her second look, Pia rocked a two-toned bikini and a sky-high pair of platforms that channeled retro Barbie vibes.

8. Maris Racal
What do Maris Racal and Dua Lipa have in common? Aside from their smooth singing voices, it's their penchant for lace bustier, it seems! Confidently strutting in her hot pink ensemble, you can just tell the 24-year-old is oozing with girl power.

9. Heart Evangelista
No trend list would be complete without our favorite impactful global influencer putting her own stamp on it. Heart wore this hubadera dress in Thailand and jaws definitely dropped.

10. Julia Barretto
Jumping on the Barbiecore bandwagon is Julia Barretto! And with her willowy figure, how can one not draw comparison to a Barbie doll? The 25-year-old's recent looks to promote her movie Expensive Candy exuded fun and flirty vibes, perfectly encaupsulating this trendy aesthetic. Julia's first look had her in a dress with a blush-pink hue and a black bow design at the top of the bodice.

Wearing a brighter shade of pink this time, Julia was a vision in a fuschia dress that accentuated her hourglass silhouette. She finished off her look with a pair of studded heels in the same color as her frock!

A star who's always ready to try a new aesthetic out is Bea Alonzo! For a recent premiere look, the style maven tried her hand out with Barbiecore and she looked every bit like a living doll in her pink ensemble courtesy of retailer Alex Perry.
