Yeng Constantino Opens Up About Being Child-Free

Yeng Constantino recently celebrated her 20th anniversary in the industry through two sold-out concerts titled Biyaheng Bente. She graced Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on September 7 to talk about the concerts’ success, her career longevity, and her “what-if” story with It’s Showtime host Ryan Bang, which resurfaced after he watched her show.

Tito Boy also delved into more personal questions about her husband of 11 years, Yan Asuncion, including his reaction to Yeng and Ryan’s story and why he and the pop rock royalty have chosen to remain child-free.

During Fast Talk, Boy briefly asked Yeng if she was ready to become a mother. Yeng responded, “Madami pa po akong obligasyon,” and, given the nature of the segment, they moved on to the next question. They later revisited the topic, allowing Yeng to elaborate on her answer.

The singer-songwriter shared that her mother passed away half a decade ago. “Noong bago po mamatay si Mama, ang talagang binilin po sa akin ay [ang] mga kapatid ko at saka si Papa.” She went on to share that she had a conversation with her husband, acknowledging that God is bringing many blessings their way, which they feel responsible for sharing with their respective families. “Kung bakit tayo binubuhusan [ng biyaya] ni Lord, meron siyang dahilan.”

From what Yeng shared, Yan is an understanding husband. She also mentioned in the same interview that he has a lot of “empathy” for Ryan Bang.

This year, Yeng’s sister was diagnosed with cancer. “Kami pong mag-asawa ang nagtutulungan doon,” she said. She concluded by saying, “Kung will ni Lord [na magkaroon kami ng anak], kung mangyari po, okay. Pero right now, I’m just so happy na ako po ang naka-assign sa family ko to help them.”*
