Did You Know? Ryan Bang and Yeng Constantino Almost Dated

Yeng Constantino just wrapped up Biyaheng Bente, her two-night concert last August 28 and 29 in celebration of her 20th anniversary in the industry. On the second night, she stepped down from the stage to serenade a specific man in the audience—Ryan Bang. They held hands and locked eyes as Yeng sang Top Suzara’s Sabihin Mo Na, a song about hoping to explain oneself after causing pain unintentionally.

“Bakit para kang iiyak?” Yeng teased the television host and entrepreneur.

Beside Ryan was Vice Ganda, who was visibly surprised and touched by the singer’s gesture. For the uninitiated, Yeng and Ryan actually share a history that dates back more than a decade.

The almost-love story between Ryan and Yeng was first unveiled on January 28, 2022, in the noontime show It’s Showtime, where the former was a host and the latter a judge on the segment Tawag ng Tanghalan. That day, Yeng agreed with one of the contestants’ sentiments about love, saying, “Minsan, kahit hindi mo nga naging jowa, basta nagparamdam na sa’yo tapos biglang nawala, napakasakit talaga.” She added, “‘Di ‘ba, Ryan?”

It turns out that Ryan courted her back in 2010, often bringing her coffee and going to church with her. He also considers Yeng his first-ever crush. However, he stopped trying after feeling that Yeng was not interested.

“Akala ko ayaw mo sa akin,” he said, recalling how she would turn down his invitations to spend time outside with his friends. He also thought Yeng and her fellow singer Richard Poon were dating because they went to Tagaytay together—a misunderstanding, as they were actually on their way to a prayer meeting.

Yeng clarified that she didn’t reject Ryan then. Rather, he simply stopped courting her. “Siyempre ngayon, iba na, may asawa na ako,” said the singer-composer, who tied the knot with Yan Asuncion in 2015. “Pero noong time na yun, kilig na kilig talaga ako sa kanya.”

The following day, Ryan brought Yeng a cup of coffee as a peace offering. Ryan also shared some of the experiences he went through as he pursued Pop Rock Royalty, such as having to borrow Vice Ganda’s car to attend her concert and being unable to afford meals for Yeng and her family at an upscale restaurant. These caused him fear and intimidation.

Meanwhile, Yeng assumed that Ryan had simply grown tired of waiting for her and had found a girl who was more compatible with him.

Regardless, she took the opportunity to thank him, saying, “Pinaramdam mo sa akin na special ako at importante ako. Noong time na ‘yon, sobrang nag-matter ‘yon sa akin. And what I want us to take from this experience is yung saya na naidulot natin sa isa’t isa no’ng time na ' yon.”
