When we talk about today's most lustrous showbiz personalities, Vice Ganda's name definitely rises to the top. The 45-year-old has graced almost every stage and screen, selling out movie theaters and putting a smile on millions of Filipinos daily. It may be unknown to some, though, how such a powerhouse celebrity started out in the humblest of beginnings, working at a comedy bar and pinching pennies.

In a recent vlog by Vice's good friend Dr. Vicki Belo, the comedian shared his literal climb to where he is now, along with the valuable lessons he's picked up along the way.

"Kung ano man ang assignment ko, kung ano naman ang gagawin ko, gagalingan ko lang, and that will bring me to the next chapter," the multi-hyphenate shares. After coming of age in Manugit, Manila, Vice initially made a living as a singer, before finding his true calling as a comedian (which he was forced to take on, since there was a time when he actually lost his voice).

"Ginalingan ko, idinasal ko, [pero] swinerte [naman] din ako," he says, acknowledging how Lady Luck was by his side through it all.

Eventually, Vice skyrocketed from being a comedy bar entertainer to being the country's "Phenomenal Box Office Superstar." Along with this success, of course, came the opportunity to live the life he couldn't financially afford before. In his words, "Yumaman ako kasi nagsipag naman din ako. Nagtrabaho ako."

He tells Dr. Belo that he never spent money haphazardly. "I do not live beyond my means," he asserts. Vice even recalls how stingy he was with his earnings during his days as a comedy bar performer.

"Yung mga sweldo ko sa comedy bar, every night, hindi ko kinukuha. Iniiwan ko sa kahera, pipirma lang ako, [pero] hindi ko kinukuha," he recounts, "ang inuuwi ko lang tip. Ayaw ko kasi sya magastos. Hindi ko sya ginalaw for the longest time."

His thriftiness back then reflects even in his financial choices now. "Ayaw ko ng financing, kung wala akong pambili, hindi ako bibili. Ayoko umutang, hinayang na hinayang ako sa interest."

When asked by Dr. Belo what his first big purchase with his own money was, the noontime show host stated that it was a second hand car. Since then, he's been able to buy his own house, a house for his mom, a gigantic closet (full of covetable sneakers, no less), and numerous other belongings and properties. He attributes all of this to the opportunies he was given and the smart decisions he made with them.

"Parang ang galing ni Lord kasi akala ko [dati nasa peak na ako], eto na yung todo," the superstar expresses, "[pero] meron pa [pala akong] maa-achieve. Yung possibilities, non-stop."
