In case you missed it, The World of the Married—which remains to be the highest rating Korean drama of all time in South Korea—is officially going to have a Philippine adaptation!
The hit K-drama was originally based on the British series Doctor Foster, and its production company BBC Studios just struck a deal with ABS-CBN Entertainment to obtain a license for a Pinoy remake. The network's official press release reads: "ABS-CBN and BBC Studios have forged an agreement for the local adaptation of the hit British series 'Doctor Foster,' making the Philippines the sixth country to license the format after France, Russia, Turkey, India, and South Korea."
The World of the Married, which stars Kim Hee Ae, Park Hae Joon, and Han So Hee, tells the story of a couple whose seemingly happy and perfect marriage fell apart after being besmirched by infidelity, betrayal, and revenge.
Needless to say, as stressful and frustrating it was to watch the whirlwind of events unfold, we're still definitely looking forward to seeing how PH's adaptation will turn out! That, of course, will hugely depend on the local cast members who will have big shoes to fill. And while there's no official announcement yet as to who will take on the iconic roles of Ji Sun-woo, Lee Tae-oh, and Yeo Da-kyung, we already took the liberty of rounding up the actors currently rumored to star in the Philippine remake. Check them out below:
Judy Ann Santos as Ji Sun-Woo
Kim Hee Ae undoubtedly set the bar high with her portrayal of Dr. Ji Sun Woo, even winning a Baeksang award for Best Actress last year. So of course, rumored to be her local counterpart is an award-winning actress as well—Judy Ann Santos, according to a report by Pep.ph, is most likely to play the lead role. "The owners of Doctor Foster’s rights were impressed after watching Judy Ann’s video clips and the actress was their only choice to play the lead," said the article.
Angel Aquino as Ji Sun-Woo
Another "top choice" for the role of the scorned wife is Angel Aquino, who's currently starring in the ABS-CBN primetime series FPJ's Ang Probinsyano. The 48-year-old actress is reportedly being considered as well, as Judy Ann has yet to agree to a lock-in setup for taping, according to Pep.ph's source.
Charlie Dizon as Yeo Da-Kyung
Meanwhile, the role of the mistress, Yeo Da-kyung, would be just as challenging to portray. Rumored to have been offered the role is Fangirl actress Charlie Dizon, who explained in a Pep Live interview last February that she has yet to hear about the said project but she'd love to be able to work with Judy Ann. "Wala pa pong sinabi sa aking ganun kaya nagulat din po ako noong nakita ko iyon sa Twitter pero wala pa naman pong ganun," the young actress clarified. "Kinabahan nga ako actually noong nakita ko iyon kasi nga si Miss Judy Ann talaga, iyan talaga iyong number one. Kung sakali man po, sana meron nga po talaga. Sana magka-chance na maka-work ko siya."
Janine Gutierrez as Yeo Da-Kyung
If not Charlie, it's also likely that the coveted role will belong to Janine Gutierrez. The 31-year-old actress, who just recently transferred to ABS-CBN in January, is reportedly being considered for the role, and should things work out, the drama will be her first official project as a Kapamilya star.
Julia Barretto as Yeo Da-Kyung
An actress who's not shy about expressing her interest to take on the role of the mistress is Julia Barretto, who herself is apparently a fan of the hit K-drama. In an interview with Cinema One's PopCinema, she shared, "'A World of the Married Couple.' If you guys have seen that. It’s one of the best in the world. I want to do something like that. But I want to be Da-kyung, the young girl. If you've seen it you would know. She's the young girl there, she's so pretty." And TBH, we wouldn't be surprised if the role actually lands on her lap. She'd be a perfect fit for Da-kyung!
Paulo Avelino as Lee Tae-Oh
Nothing's set in stone yet as to who will play the cheating husband Lee Tae-oh, but rumor has it that Paulo Avelino is likely to bag the role. The actor is currently starring in the primetime series Walang Hanggang Paalam, which is slated to end its run on April 16, 2021.
ABS-CBN's local adaptation for The World of the Married will reportedly start production later this year. Until then, we're keeping our eyes peeled for updates on the much-awaited drama's official cast members!
