Finger hearts and peace signs seem to be a staple at any Korean photocall, but even certain events might draw a line against it.
That was the case for actor Park Seo Joon, who had recently drawn confusion after refusing to do the usual cutesy poses at a Chanel event. However, a news report shined some light on the potential reason, pointing out how the brand might be presented in the public eye.

During the luxury brand’s Tweed de Chanel high jewelry event held on July 27, the sought-after K-drama actor presented a noticeably different front to some fans, as he opted out of the usual “finger heart” and “heart cheek” poses. Korean netizens were reportedly puzzled by this, as the actor had a history of granting photographers’ requests.
Among the guests with the What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim star was Park Hyung Sik, who, too, avoided heart poses at the event. Later on, the actor opted for a half-heart, while Seo Joon avoided these poses altogether.
On August 8, the luxury brand clarified the reason behind the refusal to Korean news outlet CBS No Cut News. Seo Joon, who is a brand ambassador for Chanel, was adhering to the brand’s directive, it said.
“Chanel requested a ‘chic and natural pose’ for the attendees of the Tweed de Chanel event. Poses involving hand hearts, cheek hearts, and Vs (peace signs) were deemed unfitting with the desired aesthetic," the news report read, as translated by All Kpop.
This isn’t the first time that a public incident involving Seo Joon made the news, as the star allegedly declined a headband offered by a fan during the premiere of his film Concrete Utopia. He later explained in his fan cafe that he sweated profusely on stage and had an “immense amount of hair spray,” which made it difficult to don the offered accessory.
