Network rivalries between Kapuso and Kapamilya stars have been set aside right now.
Beginning the evening of May 5, ABS-CBN has ceased broadcast operations for its TV and radio stations following the cease-and-desist order from the National Telecommunications Commission. The network's 25-year franchise expired last May 4.
A few GMA-7 stars took to social media to show their support for the actors and employees of the rival station.
Maine Mendoza was among the first to show support for the Kapamilya stars and employees. The Eat Bulaga! host tweeted three hearts—red, green, and blue—in the colors of the ABS-CBN logo. Maine's boyfriend Arjo Atayde, as one of ABS-CBN's contract stars, is directly affected by the network's cease in broadcast operations.
A quote by German-American philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt was shared by Janine Gutierrez on her Twitter account. It talks about the importance of free press.
Her tweet reads: "The moment we no longer have a free press, anything can happen. What makes it possible for a totalitarian or any other dictatorship to rule is that people are not informed; how can you have an opinion if you are not informed? If everybody always lies to you, the consequence is not that you believe the lies, but rather that nobody believes anything any longer."
Lovi Poe also expressed sadness about the news of the closure of ABS-CBN broadcasting. She wrote on Twitter, "This is heartbreaking. [broken heart emoji]", and added, "Prayers for everyone. [red, green, and blue heart emojis]"
JULIE ANNE SAN JOSE
"Yakap at dasal" is what Julie Anne San Jose sent out to fellow actors and other employees of ABS-CBN after the network signed off. Included in her tweet were three hearts in the colors red, green, and blue.
The 24 Oras news anchor Atom Araullo, who used to work at the News and Public Affairs department of ABS-CBN, also showed his support. He tweeted, "Sorrow today, courage and defiance tomorrow. #DefendPressFreedom"
